Senior Engineer - Developer Experience & Tools Fastly is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its Developer Experience Engineering team. You will work on various tools used by Fastly's customers written in Go (primarily the Fastly CLI and the Terraform provider) and Rust (Viceroy - the local testing tool for Fastly Compute services), and on other developer-facing tools such as the Control Plane API clients. You will play a crucial role in enabling developers to manage their services on Fastly through these tools. You will be an integral part of the team responsible for the Dev Tools. You will be expected to ensure that all of these tools meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and developer experience. What You'll Do Develop, test, and maintain developer tools written in Go and Rust, ensuring compatibility with the latest Fastly products and features. Design and implement new Fastly features and enhancements for these tools, based on developer feedback and modern best practices. Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues within the tools. Ensure timely and effective solutions to maintain high-quality developer experiences. Work closely with cloud engineers, product managers, and customer support teams to understand user requirements and address issues related to the dev tools. Maintain documentation for the tools, including usage guides, best practices, and troubleshooting resources. What We're Looking For: You have at least 5 years of related back-end software development experience At least 3 years of experience with the Go and Rust programming languages Experience with one or more other programming languages, preferably including JavaScript and Python Strong written and verbal communication skills & experience creating clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation Experience working directly with customer support teams and directly with customers to diagnose and troubleshoot problems Experience building for global-scale distributed systems A great teammate with strong collaboration skills who is humble and empathetic Ability to learn new skills quickly and share what you have learned with the broader team We'll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these: Previous experience in a Developer Experience or Developer Tools team Building Cloud/serverless platforms Open source Infrastructure as Code projects or technical communities Software testing frameworks and code coverage analysis tools Work Hours: This position will require you to be available during core business hours and occasional nights and weekends as needed for events or on-call support. Salary: The estimated salary range for this position is $167,790 to $209,740. Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
