THE ROLE The Payroll Specialist is responsible for all functions of the payroll process: process and maintain payroll records, ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations, prepare payroll reports, support payroll auditing, and address employee inquiries and issues. This is a remote position reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager. West Coast working hours are preferred. This is a hybrid position if located in Portland, OR. RESPONSIBILITIES: Process biweekly payroll for 150+ salaried and hourly employees utilizing ADP/Chrome River. Facilitate timeliness of timesheet coding by all staff for lobbying and regulatory reporting. Process benefit invoices for payment and prepare benefit journal entries. Prepare monthly payroll and benefit journal entries for entry into the accounting system (currently NetSuite Accounting System). Track benefit premium rate changes, 401K match dates, PTO balances, Parental Leave, and Disability, as well as sending related notices and reminders. Respond to all staff payroll and ADP/Chrome River inquiries. Set up new hires and enter benefits, salary, status changes, and adjustments in ADP/Chrome River. Process terminated employees' final checks. Provide ADP reports for budgeting, grants, coding, and People & Culture as needed. Provide support to A/P and credit card transactions. Track benefit premium rate changes, 401K match dates, PTO balances, Parental Leave and Disability, as well as sending related notices and reminders within ADP. Participate, along with the Finance team, in the annual audit, workers' compensation audit, and 401K audit. Provide support to other Finance functions as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: Passionate commitment to Stand for Children's mission. 5 years of experience processing multi-state payroll or related degree and equivalent experience. Associate degree in business or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience with automated payroll systems. ADP Workforce Now preferred. Experience with payroll laws and knowledge of federal and state regulations. Experience with automated payroll systems. ADP Workforce Now preferred. Outstanding attention to detail. Strong computational, organization, prioritizing, and reporting skills. Ability to handle sensitive and highly confidential matters professionally. Exceptional, proactive customer-service orientation. Ability to be flexible and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment. Strong work ethic and team player orientation. Travel may be required (up to 10%). Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Effective interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
