Position Summary The Facility Maintenance Specialist will support the overall mission of The Salvation Army by maintaining Corps Facilities, grounds, and vehicles in a state of good repair, upkeep, safety and appearance. Corps Facilities include Corps Building at 960 Walnut and Office complex at 1000 Walnut, Gym, and Quarters. Essential Functions Maintain all Corps Facilities, grounds, and vehicles in a state of good repair, upkeep, safety and appearance. Carry out minor repairs and maintenance in carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical as needed. Keep all furniture, equipment, and appliances in good working condition, and scheduling professional service as needed. Develop and maintain a contact and repair list of vendors and services including electricians, plumbers, gardeners, and any repair or maintenance services used. Serve as first point of contact for all professional services, including repair and maintenance needs. Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes continually as needed. Perform basic custodial tasks in daily routine including replenishing bathroom supplies, trash collection, vacuum, and mop floors, move furniture and equipment, ensuring that all facilities are clean, well-supplied and in good order at all times. Maintain all corps vehicles, including regular gas fill up, cleaning and servicing. Set up and break down all program and classroom areas for meetings, special events, programs, meals and visiting groups, as assigned. Routinely patrol, monitor, and secure the Corps Facilities, grounds, and vehicles. Secure facilities at the end of the workday, checking all doors and windows, lights, heating and/or air-conditioning units. Confront and/or report any suspicious activity or persons on the premises. Purchase supplies as needed and maintain inventory of janitorial and other necessary items. Provide transportation for corps activities and other programs as assigned. Work closely with the Corps Officer, Business Administrator, Event Coordinator, and other staff to ensure all projects and objectives are met in a timely, efficient, and professional manner. Supervise and give directions to Court Ordered Community Service Workers as assigned. On occasion assist social services as a backup driver to the donation collection driver making pickups from local donation centers. Various other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, climb ladders and reach overhead. Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED. 2 years' experience in a hands-on property preservation position, performing basic maintenance and repairs in carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and custodial tasks. Previous experience and knowledge of, and ability to, safely move heavy furniture and equipment without injury, as well as custodial and/or janitorial practice in a large facility. Previous security and customer service experience presenting an open, welcoming and helpful attitude with all people. Must be familiar with, understand, and be willing to comply with the purpose and goals of The Salvation Army. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, as well as Lotus Notes. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language. Must be comfortable contacting and coordinating work with vendors and sub-contractors. Excellent organizational skills including multitasking and time management. Must be reliable, conscientious and trustworthy. Must be capable of handling confidential material, demonstrate good judgment and act and dress in a professional manner. Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and good driving record. Willingness to submit to extensive criminal background, drug and motor vehicles checks. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Skill in minor property and facility repairs and maintenance, as well as custodial and security functions. The ability to quickly grasp and analyze circumstances resulting in effective decision making. Excellent customer service and relationship building skills are required. Must be able to remain calm, collected, and polite in stressful situations. The capacity to work effectively with, and relate to, all types of individuals in society. The ability to follow instructions, plan and organize work, complete assignments within a strict timeline and within budget, and manage change is essential. Proficiency in modern office methods and equipment, including the preparation of business correspondence. Must be comfortable taking instruction from multiple people, work with minimal supervision, and be prepared to encounter a variety of assignments. Qualifications Education High School or Equivalent (required) Experience Security And Customer Service Experience Presenting An Open, Welcoming And Helpful Attitude With All People. (preferred) Minimum Experience And Knowledge Of, And Ability To, Safely Move Heavy Furniture And Equipment Without Injury, As Well As Custodial And/or Janitorial Practice In A Large Facility.
