Conservation Begins Here Wildlife Education Intern Position Summary The project is our annual Kirtland's Warbler Young Artists' Calendar Contest and the associated school outreach. This program reaches approximately 1,500 students in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ontario (Canada), and The Bahamas each year. The program involves in-person and virtual school visits to teach students about the Kirtland's warbler, its habitat needs, and the species' reliance on human conservation efforts. The goal is to increase public awareness of the former endangered species throughout its summer and winter range. The SCA member will be conducting the school outreach programs, as well as communicating with teachers, collecting and organizing submitted artwork, coordinating the artwork judging, and announcing the results of the contest. Winning artwork will be organized for transfer to a graphic design team to create the annual calendar. Schedule January 20, 2025 - March 28, 2025 Key Duties and Responsibilities Conducting school outreach programs for K-8th grade classes (in-person and virtual visits); organizing submitted and winning artwork; coordinating the artwork judging Marginal Duties Sending contest outreach materials to teachers that wish to give the presentations themselves; communication with teachers; member may elect to join Forest Service staff for light field work if all assigned work is completed. Field work will involve hiking outdoors through winter and early spring conditions. Field work is optional. Required Qualifications possess a valid driver's license to drive government vehicle to schools This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority. Preferred Qualifications good communication and organization skills; prior experience with outreach/school groups; Hours 40 per week Living Accommodations Government-owned housing available within one mile of duty station. Member may or may not have a roommate, and will share kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and storage facilities at the government housing. Compensation Living Allowance: $450/week All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
