CFD Algorithm and Software Development Engineer Aerospace Engineer V NASA Glenn Research Center Cleveland, Ohio HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. HX5 is currently seeking a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) engineer with experience in code development for turbomachinery applications, particularly rotating components, to join our team in Cleveland, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC). Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The position involves working with members of NASA's Turbomachinery and Turboelectric Systems Branch on the development of FUN3D CFD software and porting the code to run on GPGPU computing environments. Specific areas include algorithm development and implementation for simulations based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, development, and porting of source code for multiarchitecture simulations ranging from desktop to exascale-class environments, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of scale-resolving technologies for complex flows across the speed regime. A NASA-approved software repository platform will be used for all development work following the Turbomachinery and Turboelectric Systems Branch Management Plan. The position also involves providing documentation of codes through website instructions, tutorial content, and User Manual material. Occasional travel for the purposes of communicating results and presenting progress of the work is anticipated. Job responsibilities include: Developing algorithms for various portions of the Computational Fluids Dynamics (CFD) solver. Porting the FUN3D code to run on GPGPU computing environments. Performing CFD RANS analyses of turbomachinery components. Visualizing, analyzing, and interpreting CFD results. Interacting with Research Engineers specializing in compressor and turbine aerodynamics from the Turbomachinery Branch. Documenting, reporting, and presenting results clearly and concisely. Required Skills: A strong background in scientific computing languages on GPGPU architectures. Strong experience with CFD algorithm development. A background in incompressible or compressible flows and applied aerodynamics. Experience with CFD simulations and post-processing analysis. Other Desired Skills: Familiarity with aircraft propulsion turbomachinery concepts. Experience with CFD analysis of turbomachinery components. Education/Experience: Minimum - M.S. degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent and 15 years of experience. Desired - Ph.D. degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent with10+ years of experience. Other Position Requirements: Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
