Construction Safety Specialist Under general supervision, assists in the monitoring and coordination of the company's health and safety programs, including safety inspections, accident investigations, and safety training. Duties and Responsibilities Participates in the development and implementation of company safety programs such as lockout/tagout, fall protection, fire protection, and other OSHA safety compliance programs. Advises the company on safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of crew members, staff, public, other trades as well as regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other government regulatory offices. Performs hazard analyses and recommends mitigation procedures to Safety Manager. Participates in the development and implementation of department safety work order tracking and reporting. Conducts routine and follow-up environmental health, safety, and hazard inspections of jobsites. Responds to emergency situations involving safety incidents, or unknown hazards; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations. Analyzes accident and incident reports for trends; makes recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions. Assist with the special guidelines required of general contractors to implement effective safety programs. Initiate and audit high-risk work permits (e.g., crane operations, work at heights, hot work, excavations). Provide Jobsite safety orientation and oversee subcontractor safety performance. Prepare and present training in safety topics to include but not limited to : fall protection, hot work, lockout / tag out, powered industrial trucks, electrical safety, cranes/rigging, excavation/trenches, hazard communication, ladder safety, etc. Review safety data sheets (SDSs) for chemicals brought onsite. Mentor/coach employees and managers in safe work practice. Requirements and Qualifications Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a related field BCSP certification preferred 5+ years compliance safety experience in the Construction Industry Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations Bilingual communication skills a plus (English/Spanish) CPR/First Aid certification a plus Conditions of Employment *A valid driver's license will be required as a motor vehicle must be operated on the job. *Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. *Specific personnel training is required for employees working with hazardous materials and hazardous waste. Working Conditions and Physical Effort *A variety of physical activity is required in this position. This position requires some heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is not a primary part of job. *Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic company safety precautions. *Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. *East Coast Travel 80% is required
