Position Description The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has an immediate opening for an Assistant Director for Operations. This position will report to the DNALC Executive Director and collaborate closely with the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) to assist with finance and grants management, report preparation, and tracking organizational goals and metrics. The Assistant Director for Operations will have an active role in administering the smooth operations of all the DNALC centers in the New York Metropolitan area. The successful candidate will become a member of a small, influential group recognized worldwide as a leader in creating and disseminating new methods in genetics education"”including the fields of molecular genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, and data science. Position Responsibilities Oversight of DNALC financial operations, including income, payments, budgets, and preparation of periodic reports; Collaborating with Office of Sponsored Programs to support DNALC grant submissions, report preparation, compliance, budgets, and project management. Collection and maintenance of visitation records, generation of periodic visitation reports, and development of office management software. Supporting DNALC leadership with project management goals. Point of contact for DNALC collaborators, consultants, vendors, and clientele. Maintenance of mailing lists related to events and programs, and marketing of workshops, camps, field trips, and school partnership opportunities. Maintenance of a master DNALC calendar, schedules, attendance lists, and program follow-up. Supervision of a small administrative team of 3-5 people. Position Requirements Experience in the submission and management (reporting and compliance) of federally funded grants (e.g., NIH, NSF). Experience and/or certification in finance management including the preparation, management, and auditing of budgets and financial statements; proficiency in related software. Experience and/or certification in project management; proficiency in related software. Strong communication skills, including in the presentation of analyses (e.g. trends, projections, and other data visualization skills). Management experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Word). A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required. One to two years of grants and contracts administration experience, and/or an accounting background are preferred. The position demands a motivated self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team, good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, and strong written and oral communication. Position will be based at the DNALC NYC (Brooklyn). Occasional travel to Cold Spring Harbor and other DNALC sites around metropolitan New York will be required for training and operational meetings.
