The University of Virginia Facilities Management Department has an available Custodian opportunity! Custodians perform exceptional housekeeping services in assigned areas through safe work practices while using proper housekeeping techniques. The position maintains good working relationships with customers, staff, students, and supervisors. The Custodian completes special project work as assigned. They gain increasing efficiency with cleaning techniques, supplies, and equipment. Basic housekeeping experience, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash is required. Ability to follow established policies and procedures and adhere to regulatory guidelines in daily work is required. Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team, as well as written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are also essential. Microsoft Outlook (email) and the ability to submit electronic timesheets are also required. NOTE: Shifts for this position are Monday - Friday, either 5:00am - 1:30pm, OR 6am - 2:30pm. Duties Include: Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, public areas, or other assigned areas in clean and orderly condition. Remove trash, clean bathrooms, wipe down surfaces, dust, vacuum, etc. Apply proper methods and materials. May mix own cleaning solutions. Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment and keep inventories of supplies, requesting additional supplies as needed. Report all repairs and pest control needs, and any housekeeping-related violations by residents, guests, or staff. May perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing bulbs, or more complex tasks including operating cleaning equipment such as buffers or waxers. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Qualifications: Education: None Experience: Some experience with basic housekeeping duties including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash. Selected candidates will have to complete all required background checks prior to start of the position. Position Compensation: - Starting at $15.00 per hour, dependent on candidate qualifications and experience. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits.
