PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: In 2006, BRC opened a pilot 19-bed safe haven using funding from the Mayor's Fund for New York and the NYC Department of Homeless Services. The facility has achieved notable successes, and was expanded to 52 beds in January 2009. The Bowery Safe Haven is a low-demand model for chronic street homeless men whose primary reasons for remaining homeless are substance abuse issues. Bowery Safe Haven participants are not required to maintain sobriety and do not have any curfew; the one requirement upon entering is that they actively work toward obtaining housing. The program is currently funded by the NYC Department of Homeless Services and the US Bureau of Primary Health Care. BENEFITS BRC takes the health, safety, and wellbeing of our employees seriously. Employees are eligible for health insurance and paid sick time benefits immediately upon starting work.
