The Staff Dentist is also responsible to participate in additional duties which promotes and furthers dental awareness and health in the community KNOWLEDGE OF WORK Knowledge of federal, state, local and dental clinic rules regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry, as well as those relating to personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentialityKnowledge of Federally Qualified Health CentersKnowledge of HIPPA and OSHAAbility to work with a multi-cultural population DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The dentist is the head of the dental care team and operates per patient needs (hours/days)Examine, diagnose, prescribe and carry out appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refer individuals for specialty care, in conformance with clinical guidelinesEducate patients on treatment options including pros and cons of specific treatments and alternatives where applicableProvide basic dental services to as many people as possible while maintaining a level of quality care which is equal to or greater than that of the private sectorAchieve and maintain a high level of competency in clinical dentistry with special emphasis on areas of unique benefit in the dental clinic setting, such as pediatric dentistry, emergency dental treatment, extractions and prevention of dental careRecord patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the record accurately reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. Make appropriate written referrals and obtain appropriate written consent when necessaryEducate and motivate individuals and their families toward prevention of oral diseaseComply fully with all applicable federal, state, local and dental clinic rules regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry, as well as those relating to personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentialityAssist in the orientation and training of auxiliaries and other staffAttend dental staff meetings and general staff meetingsCooperate fully in any risk management activity or investigationAssist in the ongoing development and implementation of performance-improvement activities such as quality assurance, peer review, and staff developmentMaintain a team approach to dentistry by assisting other dentists and staff as necessary to allow for efficiency, flow and quality of dental careProvide consultation to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues in the absence of the Dental DirectorAssist in the coordination and integration of all dental clinic outreach programs as directed by the Dental DirectorPerform other duties as assigned EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING Must have a DDS or DMD from an accredited school of dentistry. Must be licensed to practice dentistry in the State of California. Must possess or obtain a DEA registration. Must maintain CEUs as required for license renewal. Must certify and remain current in CPR. CommuniCare+OLE requires pre-employment drug-testing (4-panel drug-test includes: amphetamines, cocaine, opiates, and PCP).
