Safety Specialist

Location New York, New York Shift: Day (United States of America) Description: Safety Specialist The Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS) performs environmental and occupational health and safety consulting services for the New York Presbyterian Community. The EHS department manages disposal of hazardous chemical and medical waste; evaluates occupational/environmental health and safety issues; coordinates and provides various safety trainings for staff as required by law; performs environmental, occupational, and safety audits; advises units on occupational and environmental safety issues; reviews new construction and renovation designs for environmental/occupational health and safety; provides assistance with asbestos management. This position supports 20,000 staff with respect to environmental/ occupational health and safety issues. Assists in hazardous waste management and disposal, ensuring hazardous materials are properly manifested, labeled, stored, and transported according to OSHA, EPA, and NY DEC/NYC DEP regulations; assist with spill cleanup. Provides training, guidance and advice on all safety related issues, to major administrative units including Facilities Operations, Environmental Services, and Facilities Development. Responsible for development of program and recommendations for improvement. Responsible for Regulatory Compliance ensuring all check list requirements are met. Reviews all vendor documentation and act as liaison. Assists with general safety programs including indoor air quality; chemical hygiene; hazard communication; personal protective equipment; blood borne pathogens. Performs environmental and occupational safety audits of all facilities. This is a full time position located at NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center. Required Criteria Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Public Health, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Science Must have working knowledge of industrial hygiene, environmental and occupational policies/principles, and regulatory requirements Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills Proficient with Microsoft Office and other programs Join a healthcare system where employee engagement is at an all-time high.
