Salary: $21.41 Hourly Location : NJ 08360, NJ Job Type: Part Time Job Number: PTOSGEAR Department: 65000 - Office of Diversity and Equity Division: GEAR UP- CC Opening Date: 11/06/2024 Bargaining Unit: Non-Represented, PT Description The Outreach Specialist supports the enrollment goals of the GEAR UP office, and responsible for increasing GEAR UP students' program engagement, family connection to critical school-based information, and providing post-secondary access support for students and families. In addition, the Specialist will expand partnerships with organizations that support college preparation and broader student services all responsive to the cultural needs of the South Jersey community. The Outreach Specialist must possess strong oral and written communication skills to promote the mission of the GEAR UP program in a variety of forums and to a diverse group of students and community members. This is grant-funded position, ending June 30, 2027 Examples of Duties Effectively communicates the GEAR UP application process, program services, and resources to all prospective students and their families, partner school staff, and College personnel articulately and professionally. Maintains a calendar of individual and group appointments with prospects and applicants to help them successfully navigate the GEAR UP enrollment process. Supports recruitment and enrollment related events such as Back to School nights, program orientations, parent/teacher conference events, other middle and high school visits, and community fairs. Such events may occur on and off campus, in person and virtual settings, during mornings, evenings, and on weekends. Assists the GEAR UP Director with executing new student engagement platforms Maintains monthly reports to track and analyze recruitment efforts. Supports GEAR UP events by monitoring RSVPs, facilitating reminder calls/texts, and sending email blasts. Maintains contact records for prospective students collected at recruitment events Meets individually and in groups with participants regularly to provide information and assistance related to successful school completion and postsecondary entry and graduation. Assists students with academic and career exploration, goal setting, planning, & follow through. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with K-12 and higher education institutions and/or community entities. Plans and coordinates college visitations, cultural activities, workshops, and events for students, teachers, parents, and the community. Provides workshops for participants and families, providing training and support. Ensures the integrity and confidentiality of student records Participates in professional development opportunities provided by RCSJ as well as various associations/organizations across the region. Monitors and collects student data for assessment and reporting requirements. Develops and maintains GEAR UP program visibility in schools. Performs other duties, as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred Associate degree in counseling, education, or related field required, bachelor's preferred Minimum of two years' experience with low-income/ federal educational opportunity programs for at-risk youth and their families Demonstrated ability to communicate GEAR UP program services in an articulate and effective manner to individual students and large groups. Knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel, PowerPoint and Word Ability to staff GEAR UP Saturday Academy sessions during the Academic Year Available to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends. Ability to travel to multiple educational institutions, utilizing personal vehicle for travel. Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, colleagues, partner school staff, and community partners. Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment. Pension Benefits: This position may be eligible for the under the New Jersey State Pension System. The DCRP is a defined contribution plan available for eligible part time employees. Six investment carriers are authorized to provide investment options and service in the DCRP. Employees contribute 5% of their base salary with a 3% employer match.
