JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Educator will serve as a resource person for all staff in the outpatient clinical setting. With input from managers and supervisors, the Educator will be responsible for coordinating training and orientation for all new staff of the clinical area as well as keeping all staff aware of standards of practice related to their areas. The Clinical Educator helps coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of OSS Health clinic performance improvement and plays a supportive role in ensuring compliance with all Joint Commission, Department of Health and other regulatory standards for all outpatient areas. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION: • Licensed and currently registered as a Practical or Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania • CPR certification required. • Clinical expertise in hospital or outpatient setting (orthopaedics experience preferred). • Background in education and teaching experience preferred. • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to the changing roles and responsibilities of education at OSS Health • Excellent computer skills required (including Microsoft Office and Windows). • Ability to self-educate and develop a thorough knowledge of Joint Commission standards and performance improvement techniques. • Valid driver's license is required. • Excellent communication skills required (verbal & written) in order to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and write clear and concise routine reports. Skilled at designing forms, retrieving data and effectively expressing results of such to management and staff. • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervisor in order to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex and diverse projects simultaneously. • Must understand and respect confidentiality. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Supports the corporation's performance improvement process, identifies performance trends and prioritizes and recommends improvements. Coordinates the implementation of the performance improvement program that meets the needs of patients, staff and external agencies. • Manages clinical orientation program, in the classroom and on the clinic floor. • Coordinates certification/recertification of staff in CPR. • Works with clinical areas to develop, facilitate and manage educational needs and content for both patient and staff education. Develops and manages community education programs as assigned. • Coordinates annual clinical competency program. • Communicates new product information, arranges in-services for new equipment and coordinates the evaluation of trial products. • Assists in CQI programs, helping to ensure that necessary requirements as outlined by policy and procedure, PA DOH, and Joint Commission are met. • Resource for continuing education credits for various clinical departments. • Represents education department on clinically oriented committees. Works within educator role in clinical areas to develop & facilitate processes and tools related to outcome objectives from committees including FMEA, RCA, & sentinel events. • Assists with the development/management of departmental policy and procedure. Performs duties in accordance with established clinic policies and procedures, OSS objectives, performance improvement activities, safety, confidentiality, environmental and infection control standards. • Responsible for coordination of opening any new OSS Office(s) with respect to compliance, competency, regulatory policy and procedure. • Participates in the process of continuing education, both as a provider and recipient of services. Attends all mandatory in-service programs and maintains professional education requirements. • Assists in maintaining a safe working environment throughout all the outpatient clinical sites, adhering to all safety policies and procedures. • Implements performance improvement plans and consistent training and follow-up with clinical staff. • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to exchange information on factual matters, communicate in a variety of manners with patients, staff and explain policies of the organization. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Light physical effort; some standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping; manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment; detail oriented; able to maintain a pleasant and courteous demeanor under all circumstances. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
