Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Custodian Date Posted: 10/7/2024 Location: Madison Early Childhood Center District: Madison District Public Schools - website INTERNAL/EXTERNAL POSTING JOB TITLE: Head Custodian LOCATION: Madison Early Childhood Center START DATE: October 28, 2024 WORK SCHEDULE: 52-week position, 8 hours per day SALARY: Per AFSCME Local 1468 Collective Bargaining Agreement DESCRIPTION We are seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a Head Custodian. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the daily maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of the school facilities and grounds. This role oversees a team of custodial staff and ensures that the building is clean, well-maintained, and in compliance with health and safety standards. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 3-5 years of custodial experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role preferred Knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment, and safety procedures Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness Good communication skills and a positive attitude Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems is a plus Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and stand for extended periods ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform and oversee general cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting, and dusting classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas. Oversee and conduct basic maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and minor repairs. Ensure the school grounds, including sidewalks, parking lots, and play areas, are clean, safe, and well-maintained. Monitor the building for safety hazards, and ensure that all custodial practices comply with school safety protocols and OSHA regulations. Report any issues to the appropriate personnel. Assist with setting up for events, meetings, and special activities. Work closely with school administration, teachers, and other staff to address facility-related issues and support the school's educational mission. Ensure that all cleaning protocols meet district, state, and federal health and safety standards, especially in high-traffic or sensitive areas such as restrooms and cafeterias. Act as the point person for emergency situations, including handling issues like leaks, spills, and other urgent repairs.
