Position Summary: The role of the radiation therapist at New York Proton Center is to provide direct patient care utilizing proton radiation therapy. Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures accurate and precise treatment delivery and date capture. Demonstrates sound clinical judgement in daily activities involving treatment delivery and simulation procedures. Reviews all set-up instructions, radiation prescriptions, consents, treatment plan, and any other documentation related to treatment delivery. Explains treatment process to the patient in a clear and concise manner that promotes understanding. Answers any questions that the patient may have which is within the scope of practice of the radiation therapist. All other questions will be referred to the treating physician or appropriate healthcare practitioner. Visually monitors the patient during treatment. Maintains appropriate treatment and simulation records and data. Performs required quality assurance procedures and documents accordingly. All measurements outside of established parameters will be immediately relayed to the physicist, engineering staff, and Chief Therapist. Adheres to all departmental policies and procedures and serve as a role model for others. Adapts without difficulty to changes in work schedule or assigned area as patient load dictates. Maintains licensure, registration, and certifications as required. Works within the Practice Standards as defined by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. Completes all mandatory orientation, training, and continued education as required. Always demonstrates professional behaviors. Utilizes resources, equipment, and supplies efficiently. Comply with all NYPC policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Perform other job-related duties, as assigned. Qualifications: Education: Required: Must be a graduate of a JCERT accredited program in radiation therapy or a suitable equivalent Preferred: Baccalaureate Degree in Radiation Therapy or a related health science field License and Certification: Required: Certified and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy or ARRT Board exam eligible Must be licensed by the New York State Department of Health as a radiologic technologist or eligible Must be certified in Basic Life Support/ CPR Experience Experience: One year of experience as a Radiation Therapy Technologist preferred, but not required Days/Times: Monday - Friday. Hours are 2:00pm until10:00pm/COB, with some variability expected based on patient volume and machine availability. The salary range and/or hourly rate displayed is a determination of base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
