Position Details Position Information Posting date: 07/10/2024 Closing date: Open Until Filled: Yes Position Number: Position Title: Environmental and Occupational Safety Officer Department this Position Reports to: Environmental Health and Safety Hiring Range Minimum: $82,000 Hiring Range Maximum: $95,000 Union Type: Not a Union Position SEIU Level: Not an SEIU Position FLSA Status: Exempt Employment Category: Regular Full Time Scheduled Months per Year: 12 Scheduled Hours per Week: 40 Schedule: Location of Position: Hanover, NH Remote Work Eligibility?: Onsite only Is this a term position?: No If yes, length of term in months.: n/a Is this a grant funded position?: No Position Purpose: Responsible for the oversight of Environmental Programs, permitting, training and compliance requirements. Use a combination of project management, technical knowledge, and communication skills to support and manage projects and programs. This position will promote a positive, and proactive environmental and occupational safety culture. Description: Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp: Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences or occupational safety related field, or a combination of education and experience. Five plus years of relevant environmental, or occupational safety experience, preferably in higher education. Certified A/B Operator, or the ability to obtain within six months of appointment. Certified NH Asbestos Inspector, or the ability to obtain within six months of appointment. Demonstrated ability to conduct audits or quality assurance tasks, write concise summaries and follow up on deficiencies. Must be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment as necessary. Wide and comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local occupational regulations, professional standards, and best practices in EHS . Ability to develop and deliver safety training. Maintain a valid US or Canadian driver's license and the ability to qualify as an Approved Driver under Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy. Ability to respond to campus emergencies after hours and on weekends/holidays, as needed. Preferred Qualifications: Well organized with the ability to follow direction with minimal supervision. Good judgement and poise in potentially stressful situations. Professional certification in an EHS discipline. Strong risk assessment and risk communication skills. Additional Instructions: Quick Link: Key Accountabilities Description: Environmental Program Management Oversee asbestos, mold, lead and PCB abatement programs and related Occupational Safety and Health Administration ( OSHA ) and Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ) compliance requirements, permitting, and regulatory reporting. Maintain effective communication with employees, contractors, and Dartmouth project managers. Manage the regulated petroleum storage tank program, to include all underground storage tanks ( UST ) and above ground storage tanks ( AST ). Serve as Dartmouth's certified A/B Operator under the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services ( NHDES ). Manage the Wastewater Permitting Program through the Town of Hanover, NH, and NHDES . Technical resource for major renovation projects and manage activities of environmental consultants. Prepare regulatory reports in a timely manner to meet reporting deadlines. Percentage Of Time: 50 Description: Occupational Safety Program Management Coordinate with Industrial Hygienist to manage indoor air quality, odor, health and safety complaints and environmental health concerns. Monitor air quality in occupied and unoccupied spaces, develop and review work plans. Identify, design, and administer compliance programs to meet OSHA , NFPA , and NH regulatory agency requirements. May serve as back-up for the EHS Compliance and Fire Safety Associate Director with regard to OSHA and Environmental compliance. Percentage Of Time: 40 Description: Emergency Response & Other Duties In coordination with other EHS professionals, respond to hazardous materials incidents. Perform clean-up tasks that may require the use of a respirator, and fully encapsulated protective clothing.
