The Assistant Director of Student Financial Services will employ a student-focused vision and approach to plan, direct, and monitor the Bursar Office's service delivery and operations at Bergen Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of student receivables, reconciliations, performing daily journal entries, financial reporting, analysis, and researching variances and other financial matters to resolve related inquiries. Demonstrates the ability to successfully implement and manage processes than enhance the College's compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations as they pertain to student finance. Monitor and evaluates cash flow for appropriateness to ensure fiscal solvency and accountability. Create reports to foster a transparent view of spending, accounts receivable, and other critical financial analyses. POSTION SUMMARY Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provides leadership to ensure due diligence is performed on all student debts owed to the College. Performs general financial reporting and analysis of student accounts; researches, analyzes, and explains variances and resolves related inquiries. Monitors accounts receivable and oversees the collection process for the Bursar's Office. Works closely with the Director of Student Financial Services to foster an environment of continuous improvement through effective decision-making, aligning departmental objectives with the College's strategic planning and development, and improving the Department's ability to evaluate, update, and implement effective programs and policies. Produces periodic management reports of financial results. Monitors student accounts receivable and proactively highlights findings that require managerial action. Assists with completing the College's annual 1098-T processing, student account write-offs, monthly materials for Board of Trustee meetings, and year-end reporting. Assists with maintaining accurate student financial records to facilitate information flow between the Bursar's Office, Financial aid, Accounting, Enrollment Services, and other offices throughout the College. Prepares journal entries as needed to maintain current and accurate records. Handles refunding of Title IV funds under NJ and Federal deadlines and regulations. Works collaboratively with their supervisor, the Controller, and the Compliance Officer to evaluate internal controls and procedures for the Bursar's Office. Assists with planning and executing system enhancements and reporting for improved processes. Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field Experience: Minimum of 5 years of related experience; background with institution of higher education a strong plus Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission. Takes a collaborative approach to working with internal staff and other departments. Requires knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures in governmental agencies; principles and techniques of budget preparation, administration, statistical methods, technical writing, and related record keeping. Has intermediate proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite with advanced capabilities in Excel. Exhibits strong skills in: Oral and written communication. Student and customer focus. Building relationships and collaborating with others. Ability to multi-task and effectively organize work. Planning and executing tasks through completion. Budget management familiarity (budget software experience a plus). Experience with Ellucian Colleague SALARY AND BENEFITS Annual Salary is $70,000 - $80,000 NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. NJ State Pension plan. 23 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year. 3 Partial Sick Days.
