Purpose The Senior Manager, U.S. Compliance Risk Assessment contributes to the overall success of the GBM&T Compliance / Compliance Risk & Control Assessment in the United States, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. As this Senior Manager, you will assist in the implementation of the U.S. Compliance Risk and Control Assessment ("CRCA"). You will also assist the Head of US Regulatory Controls Management in (i) implementing and enforcing CRCA related policies and procedures; (ii) supporting business and corporate function units in executing the CRCA as prescribed by governance documents; (iii) supporting business and corporate function units with devising action plans for areas with elevated compliance risk; (iv) coordinating and editing an annual qualitative report on the risk assessment results; and (v) supporting quality assurance of the CRCA. This role will entail substantial coordination with various business units, control functions and other teams within the Compliance function. What You'll Do Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. Manage full-cycle CRCA process, including partnering with stakeholders from first and second lines of defense to ensure comprehensive understanding of CRCA methodologies, processes, roles and responsibilities, workflow approvals and exceptions. Assist in the independent second line risk assessment process, themed reviews and ad-hoc reviews of procedures, business, and compliance processes to identify and escalate potential gaps in adherence to applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidance, and Bank policy. Assist in identifying enhancements to risk assessment logic, reports, and workflow through data analysis; define requirements, new and enhanced workflow processes, and procedures that enhance the controls/quality of the risk assessment program. Complete risk assessments reviews in a timely manner and prepare report of results with actionable compliance recommendations. Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Compliance Advisory, Internal Audit, Enterprise Compliance, and the relevant business areas to ensure their inputs are obtained and included in the risk assessment process. Maintain an awareness of and monitor the regulatory environment for new and emerging legislation, policy statements, relevant trends and industry best practices and determine how they impact related controls. Prepare regulatory packages in response to exams, including, but not limited to documenting responses, storage and collection of artifacts, and creating/updating sustainability matrices. Other duties and projects as may be assigned from time to time. Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. What You'll Bring A minimum of 7- 10 years of compliance/risk experience preferably with a major international banking organization with institutional trading & sales, investment banking, institutional broker dealer or FCM/swap dealer businesses. Experience leading risk assessments processes. Familiarity with U.S. bank and broker dealer laws, rules, and regulations applicable to non-US banks operating in the U.S. Strong analytical and investigative skills and demonstrated ability to operate at a strategic level. Ability to operate with minimal direction, deliver product of the appropriate quality, set goals and manage priorities. Ability to coordinate across multiple management levels, jurisdictions, business lines and support functions to drive results and meet timely deadlines. Ability to communicate well across all levels of an organization. Ability to deal with time sensitive requests, competing priorities and fluctuating call, email volumes. Significant amount of information flows to and through this position requiring an ability to quickly review, assimilate, prioritize and make decisions. Sound judgment in identifying risks to proactively escalate with relevant senior management. Strong organizational, communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills required. Strong attention to detail. Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Experience operating and coordinating programs across large matrixed organizations. Highly organized and capable of dealing with complex projects. High level of integrity and discretion. Strong computer skills. Proficiency with standard computer applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. BA or international equivalent required. Interested?
