MAJOR TOOL & MACHINE, INC., JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: PLANT SUPERINTENDENT Position Summary: This position serves as a bridge of communication for carryover activities between shifts while leading assigned manufacturing personnel to safely machine and fabricate quality parts on time and within the estimated hours. Serves as a technical resource for the personnel on their assigned shift. Must also ensure activity supports the company's objectives are being met, including project, cost, quality and safety related factors. Reports To: Personnel: Manufacturing personnel assigned to the shift. Accountabilities: To lead the shift to produce quality parts, on time, at the processed hours. To lead the shop in maintaining their areas according to 6S and Lean Manufacturing standards. Plays an integral part in the training and development of manufacturing personnel on assigned shifts. To ensure that manufacturing personnel are held accountable to performance expectations, and initiates appropriate performance feedback and discipline according to company policy. Authorities: Supervisory authority over assigned shifts. Assigns personnel to appropriate tasks based on skill set. Duties: Campus security/facility oversight Attend carryover meetings with manufacturing team leaders. Assist shop floor personnel with issues, troubleshoot problems Assist manufacturing with up-front planning on selected work orders. Assist with implementation of new process development. Participate with manufacturing teams on process improvements. Ensure accountability for 6S initiatives and lean manufacturing principles. Advise and assist personnel with technical support. Conduct regular shift meetings. Provide feedback on skill level and performance to Team Leader for each area, collaborate on performance reviews and skills book sign-offs. Mentor, train and identify needs of off-shift employees in area of technical expertise (machining or fabrication). Investigate any anomalies on assigned shift- NC's, job overruns, accidents, incidents, - and define and implement appropriate corrective actions. Provide any support to manufacturing personnel to help them do their job - material, supplies, instructions, etc. Job Qualification Requirements: Educational Experience - Educational requirements may be fulfilled by one or more of the following: Minimum requirement of High School Diploma or GED; with additional Trade School / Vocational School education, some college education or relevant job experience of at least 3 years in either machining or fabrication. Experience - Ten years minimum manufacturing experience. Previous supervisory experience is required. Must be highly competent in the trade being supervised. Must have a basic understanding of machining or welding processes, advanced fabricating techniques, fixturing/sub assembly weldments, quality processes, NDT, materials, heat treatment, Visual Manufacturing and maintenance. Physical Demands - Normally works in a shop environment and may frequently be subject to: high noise levels from machinery physical hazards from moving equipment and production components breathing fumes, dust and mist skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids. welding flashes Certification Required - Not applicable Visual Acuity - Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts and machinery. Hearing Ability - Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action. Working Conditions - The employee is subject to: high noise levels from operating machines physical hazards from moving equipment and production components breathing fumes, dust and mist skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids. The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws. Attendance is an essential job function. Employees will operate in compliance of all recognized standards that Major Tool adheres to (such as AS9100, ISO 9000), including all supporting policies and procedures.
