Job Type Full-time Description The Workforce Readiness Director is primarily responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive year-round workforce and career development program that meets the needs of our teens and local employers. The Workforce Readiness Director will deliver a variety of programs and services that will improve the employability of teen Club members, provide career counseling, job readiness and job placement services and increase financial knowledge of teens. The Workforce Readiness Director serves as a "career mentor" to Club youth, providing individual and small group support to prepare them for employment and career development opportunities. Key Job Responsibilities: •Compile resources, information, and data, to address current and future trends impacting the future workforce readiness needs of youth. •Facilitate the Career Launch, Diplomas to Degrees and Money Matters programs. •Ensure all teens have a written plan for the future that they are actively working to achieve. •Provide individual guidance to teen members about career pathways, resume/cover letter writing, mock interviews, personal branding, etc. •Build and maintain positive relationships with all Club teens. •Develop and cultivate relationships with community organizations, agencies, and resources in or around the community that can support our Workforce Readiness programs. •Plan and coordinate opportunities for a variety of guest speakers to attend the Club and share their career pathway experiences. •Plan and coordinate off-site workforce development experiences for participants at a variety of workplaces. •Plan and conduct events that further promote workforce readiness such as field trips, collaborations with other organizations, job shadows, career fairs and workplace tours. •Manage the internship program, including group and individual meetings with participants, scheduled visits to job sites and meetings with supervisors to ensure success. •May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. College & Career Center, UPS Road Code, etc) and/or participate in the implementation of organization wide events. •Operate all programs within the policies, procedures and operational hours established by BGCH. Leadership •In collaboration with the Club Director establish and maintain relationships with schools, parents and other agencies to support our members in the area of Workforce Readiness. •Provide coaching and training to staff ensuring quality program, succession planning and positive relationships and camaraderie. Strategic Planning •Contribute to operational strategic planning, providing perspective on workforce readiness programming and department employee development needs to support strategic directions. •Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve programs and systems within BGCH to ensure they meet Club member needs and motivate effective performance of staff. •Develop recommendations for implementation and modification of procedures and programs to the Club Director and all others associated with BGCH. Resource Management •Control expenditures against budget and manage any grants for program area. •Manage administrative and operational systems for Workforce Readiness programing. •Ensure a healthy and safe environment in compliance with all regulatory requirements. •Ensure a productive work environment that encourages positive, effective working relationships and open communications, and is respectful of the gender and cultural diversity of Club staff, volunteers and members. Take prompt, appropriate action to respond to conflicts between staff members. •Recruit and manage staff and volunteers in the Workforce Readiness area. •Support staff career development, identifying opportunities for training and skill building within budget limits. Partnership Development •Develop collaborative partnerships with other Clubs, consultants and vendors, as well as youth serving, professional and/or nonprofit organizations, to maintain professional credibility within the community. •In partnership with Club leadership, build a network of stakeholders and partners who can provide knowledge, skills development and experiential learning opportunities for members and help them secure employment. •With assistance from Club leadership, identify local organizations that need skilled employees and/or interns; help develop a talent pipeline to benefit both Club teens and local employers. Marketing and Public Relations •Develop and maintain public relations to promote awareness of the Club and stimulate interest Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford. •Assist with teen recruitment initiatives to increase participation in the Club's Workforce Readiness program. Relationships •Internal: Maintain close contact with the Club Director as well as colleagues, Club members, to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel. •External: Maintain contact with other Clubs, vendors, consultants, organizations, government agencies and others to achieve objectives, manage costs, share information and resolve problems. Supervisory Responsibility: This position supervises all part-time Workforce Readiness Assistants at their assigned Club. In the absence of the Club Director and Academic Success Director the Workforce Readiness Director will supervise the facility and all staff until such time the Club Director returns to work. Expected Hours of Work •September - early June: Monday through Friday 11:00am to 7:00pm •Late June - August: Monday through Friday eight hours between 8:00am to 6:00pm as designated by supervisor •Occasional morning and/or evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand • Work may require local and occasional distant overnight travel. Requirements •Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience is mandatory •Three years of experience in a role focused on academic achievement and the developmental needs of youth and teens •Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct and supervise academic programs and services •Group leadership skills with an understanding of group dynamics and classroom management •Excellent written and verbal communication skills •Organized and able to manage details efficiently and effectively •Computer proficient, including MS Word and Excel •Bi-lingual in English and Spanish and plus •Willingness and ability to obtain a PSL endorsement within 6 months of hire Salary Description $50,000 - $56,000
