Overview: As our Medical Surgical Nurse at CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington Medical Center, youll excel in your nursing career by providing care to patients admitted to our unit. You'll provide professional and compassionate nursing care to a variety of patients encountered in a multidisciplinary nursing setting. Patient population groups include children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Most of your patients are funneled in from other units providing you with the opportunity to build on your education and experience in specialized service lines such as cardiac, critical care, surgical services, and emergency. Responsibilities: Except to deliver care to 4-6 patients per shift Administer medications, change dressings, monitor vital signs, and chart with timely documentation Collaborate with a variety of other healthcare professionals such as social work, care coordination, physical therapy, occupational therapy, lab, respiratory therapy, and imaging. Performs and documents assessments as stated on Patient Care Plan and/or as patient condition requires, i.e. admission system assessment, vital signs, intake and output, ADLs, etc. Identifies discharge planning/education needs as early as possible upon admission, documents and plans in order to meet those needs. Completes all documentation according to standard operating procedures. Performs personal cares according to standard operating procedure. Collects and accurately charges for all patient care items and/or services. Charge sheet is completed at the end of each shift. Assesses, identifies and communicates unit staffing needs for current and oncoming shifts and assigns admissions and/or transfers based on patient acuity level, nurse/patient ratio, and nursing skill levels. Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Associate's Degree in Nursing. Active Registered Nursing License in North Dakota OR active compact RN license. Basic Life Support (BLS) certifed by American Heart Association (AHA). ACLS to be obtained within six (6) months of employment. PALS to be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Preferred: Medical-Surgical Unit and/or Long-Term Care RN experience.
