Summary The Bureau of Safety & Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) works to promote safety, protect the environment, and conserve resources offshore through vigorous regulatory oversight and enforcement. For information about our bureau go to: Responsibilities This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), Oil Spill Preparedness Division (OSPD), Response Research Branch (RRB), duty stationed in Leonardo, New Jersey. At the full performance level (GS-9) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Support the BSEE Ohmsett staff and the Ohmsett Contractor in support of facility operations. 2. Maintain sensitive records and files in compliance with established records retention management guidelines. 3. Serve as the Property Officer, maintaining and inventory and keeping account of, and providing routine and ad-hoc reports on government property located at Ohmsett. 4. Serve as a BSEE representative on site and point of contact for interactions with base and navy host command. 5. Recommend initiatives or actions to management that support timely and effective development and implementation of program goals and objectives in alignment with Bureau and Departmental strategic plans and goals. 6. Respond in person, by telephone, or by email to requests for information from BSEE management, the contract-operator of Ohmsett, National Weapon Station (NWS) Earle security personnel, Ohmsett customers, and the public while maintaining agency rules and protocols. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has determined that this is NOT a remote position, and the incumbent will be required to report to the duty location in Leonardo, New Jersey (non-negotiable). And that this position is NOT eligible for Telework (non-negotiable). Physical Demands: Work is primarily sedentary in nature. However, Ohmsett is the National Oil Spill Response & Renewable Energy Test Facility which is considered an industrial facility. The incumbent may be required to climb up and down flights of stairs (or ladders) to communicate with personnel working in and around the Ohmsett test tank. The work occasionally requires transporting light objects such as files, books, and papers. No special physical qualifications are required. Work Environment: Work is performed in an adequately lighted, heated, ventilated office setting. The incumbent is faced with frequent interruptions and must meet with others on a regular basis. Salary Information GS-07: $57,594 (Step 1) -$74,874 (Step 10) per annum. GS-09: $70,448 (Step 1)- $91,582 (Step 10) per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available. This vacancy is also announced as BSEE-EEGG-24-FS-325(MP) for those applicants who wish to apply and be considered under Merit Promotion procedures. See Qualifications Minimum Qualification Requirements: GS-07 Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-07, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) Maintaining and tracking data using various software and data bases. 2) Communicating and coordinating access to a secured facility. 3) Reviewing and processing confidential information such as driver's license, birth dates, social security numbers etc. MUST MEET 2 of 3 GS-09 Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-09, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) Maintaining and tracking invoices related to operating site; AND 2) Communicating and coordinating access to a secured facility; AND 3) Reviewing and processing confidential information such as (driver's license, birth dates, social security numbers etc. MUST MEET ALL Education cannot be used as a substitution for experience.
