The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at The New York Foundling (The Foundling) is a senior executive reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). They will provide expert counsel, direct the financial, accounting, and strategic operations of The Foundling. This includes providing clear, concise financial information, making sound, educated economic decisions for the organization. The CFO is responsible for overall executive oversight of The New York Foundling fiscal function and performance including general accounting, billing, budgeting, financial planning, contracts, grant management, reimbursement, gift processing, health information management, and payroll, financial and statistical reporting functions of the organization in accordance with established policies and accounting procedures. The CFO assists The New York Foundlings Board and CEO in the development of long and short-range operational and fiscal plans, which may include resources availability analyses and cost benefit analyses of proposed capital and staff expansions. The CFO manages the development of long and short-range operational and capital budgets. Prepares presentations as needed and ensures solid financial standing for The Foundling. The CFO assists The New York Foundlings Board and CEO in the development of long and short-range operational and fiscal plans, which may include resources availability analyses and cost benefit analyses of proposed capital and staff expansions. The CFO manages the development of long and short-range operational and capital budgets. Prepares presentations as needed and ensures solid financial standing for The Foundling. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, primary responsibilities of the CFO are to: Strategy As a true business partner to the CEO and senior leadership, assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and the Foundlings long-term Studies long-range economic trends and projects their impact on future growth. Analyzes operations to identify areas in need of reorganization, downsizing, or elimination. Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations; Establish yearly objectives for outside consultants, in conjunction with legal counsel and respective program leadership. Assist in the selection and engagement of outside consultants (auditors, investment advisors); Oversee long-term budgetary planning and fiscal efficiency in alignment with strategic Evaluate the finance departments structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the Executive Management Serve as a member of the senior executive Provide strategic financial input in key decisions pertaining to strategic initiatives, operational plans and Engage the board finance committee around issues, trends, and changes in the operational model and delivery. Attend meetings of the Board and its Committees and present the financial information necessary or relevant to the Board or such Committee for discharging its duties; Represent The Foundling in a way that enhances and maintains its reputation; Financial Planning and Analysis Oversee the preparation and maintenance of regular financial planning reports; Monthly profit and loss forecast (vs. budget); Cash flow Provide analyses of financial results, educate on financial impacts and develop recommendations (strategic and tactical). Develop analysis of various business initiatives (e.g., program initiatives, service coverage). Develop and maintain capital Develop, track and report on KPIs (key performance indicators). Finance Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as Oversee cash, investment, and asset Oversee financing strategies and activities, as well as banking Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organizations operations and business Planning, Policy, and Investor Relations Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets. Continuously improve the budgeting process by educating managers on considerations, implications and Develop financial business plans and Participate in The Foundlings policy development as a member of the senior management Assist in developing short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and Develop appropriate key performance indicators to monitor and drive the financial performance of The Foundling; Represent The Foundling to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, Board of Trustees, auditors, public officials, partners Oversee the investment of funds in collaboration with the Trustees Investment Committee to raise additional capital. Remain up to date on audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations. Accounting Oversee the Finance department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function; supervise finance Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and The Foundlings B Oversee audits and proper filing of tax returns, including Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial Team Management Mentor and develop the team of direct reports, managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, communication and the building of an effective team dynamic. Ensure that there is an effective succession plan in place for the CFO position and other senior executives of The Foundling reporting to the CFO; Accounting Activities Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and The Foundling/overhead cost Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control Cash Management Oversee cash management at a cadence that is beneficial to the NYF; Approve weekly/monthly Oversee AR management and provide support to collections Initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash Revenue Development Represent The Foundling in efforts with funding sources and opportunities including procuring grant Oversee and monitor effective tax strategies and compliance for The Foundling; Develop creative strategies for attaining additional lines of Prepare various analyses and reports required for development Insurance/Real Estate/Legal Affairs Oversee the Foundlings insurance program (i.e. malpractice, liability, ) Ensure the adequacy of The Foundlings insurance coverage; Manage The Foundlings real estate affairs as applicable; Oversee and monitor leaseholds and procurement; Audit and Compliance Oversee the mandate and the work of the internal auditor of The Foundling; Coordinate the annual audit (and any special or non-recurring audit) with The Foundlings external auditors; Coordinate the review, and liaise with the external auditors as required, of all financial information disclosed in any offering documents of The Foundling; Communicate transparently and collaborate to the fullest extent possible with The Foundlings external auditors; Oversee The Foundlings processes for identifying, assessing and managing the principal risks of the organizations programs and business; In partnership with legal counsel, the CFO manages, maintains, and monitors The Foundlings financial and contract responsibilities as part of city state or federal contracts and grants. Perform other functions related to the office of the CFO or as may be reasonably requested by The Foundlings CEO or Board.
