Position Summary: In keeping with our Organization's goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve; the Housekeeper plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and housekeeping services to all Residents in the facility. The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining environmental and infection control standards by performing a variety of general cleaning tasks. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Cleans and sanitizes Residents rooms, offices, hallways and other areas inside the facility as well as outside upon request. Perform floor care, including stripping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, steaming, mopping, and sweeping in assigned areas; resident rooms, bathrooms, utility closets, common area, workstations, medication rooms, and offices. Will operate mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, and related housekeeping equipment. Cleans vents, fan fixtures, top of windows, doorframes and other high areas using a ladder. Performs deep cleaning procedures of Residents rooms and prepares rooms for new occupants; follows isolation procedures when cleaning isolation rooms. Dust horizontal surfaces and fill soap and paper towel dispensers daily. Collect and transport trash and contaminated waste to main collection receptacles. Ensures that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained at all times. Follows established safety precautions when preforming tasks and using equipment and supplies. Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to the supervisor. Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Residents and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment. Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Residents care areas. Assist with new admissions, re-admissions and assist with the transfer of Residents to different rooms within the facility. Assists with training of new staff as needed. Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors. Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed. Assures all floorcare and cleaning check lists are accomplished by staff daily and turned in to Manager. Keep the Environmental Services Director informed of pertinent events or equipment concerns. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Promotes and protects Resident Rights; assists Residents to make informed decisions; treats Residents with dignity and respect; protects Residents' personal belongings; reports suspected abuse or neglect; avoids the need for physical restraints in accordance with current professional standards; supports independent expression, choice and decision-making consistent with applicable law and regulation. Adheres to patient rights and reports suspected deviations to Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing, or Administrator. Applies hand washing principles during daily work; demonstrates understanding of isolation and standard precautions; recognizes signs and symptoms of infection and complies with the employee health program; demonstrates understanding of the process for identifying and handling infectious waste; maintains personal hygiene; complies with OSHA standards in the work place; and demonstrates understanding of cross-contamination. Perform other duties and functions as required. Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Requirements Education, Training, and Experience: High School Graduate or equivalent. One year of experience in a housekeeping role preferred. Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities: Detail-oriented and thorough. Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of Residents. Sufficient ability to read, write, and speak to complete work efficiently, effectively, and courteously.
