Director of Engineering

The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading the design, integration, and development of high-performance, low-energy mechanical systems for new construction, major renovations, and existing buildings.Key Duties and Responsibilities:Build and lead a team of mechanical design experts in HVAC, plumbing, controls, sustainability, and performance contractingFoster strong relationships with developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors to deliver successful projectsProvide technical leadership in the creation of innovative, energy-efficient design solutionsPrepare and present professional recommendations, reports, and results to clients and project teamsRepresent the company in a sales support role, negotiating new work and serving as a design professional at project meetingsSupport estimating efforts by preparing preliminary design layouts for significant project proposalsParticipate in conceptual design sessions and produce complete working drawings and specification documentsCollaborate with the detailing team to ensure cost-effective system layouts per engineered drawingsMaintain internal company standards and provide training for design engineers, drafters, and internsLead recruiting and the company internship program for the Engineering and Project teamsRequired Experience and Skills:10+ years of HVAC andor plumbing design experience for commercialindustrial projects5-10 years of experience leading an engineering team4-year engineering degree or equivalent; California PE license preferredExcellent understanding of engineering fundamentals and system types, equipment, and installationProficient in Energy Pro, Trace 700, AutoCAD 2023+, and Revit 2024 (or BIM experience)Strong communication and collaboration skills to interface with stakeholdersPrior experience with mechanical contracting or engineering consulting is preferred
