Salary: $45,000.00 Annually Location : NJ 08080, NJ Job Type: Full Time Staff Job Number: ADACTSS Department: 40010- Academic Services Division: 11020 - ACT Center Opening Date: 11/06/2024 Closing Date: 11/11/2024 11:59 PM Eastern Bargaining Unit: GC NJEA Faculty (12 Month) Description The Counseling Advisor, Adult Center for Transition (ACT) & Special Services is responsible for advising new and continuing students in those respective areas on program majors and course selections, scholastic problems, academic planning, and career opportunities. The Counseling Advisor's assignment may include specific academic cohorts of students, and the responsibility of apprising students of college policies and procedures. The Counseling Advisor, working within the team, is expected to assist with implementing and conducting advisement and retention programs based on student needs. Travel will be required, as this position will work on both the Gloucester and Cumberland Campuses. Examples of Duties Provides orientation and advisement for specific student cohorts (related to majors or other groupings). Assists ACT staff with assessing student interests and helping to design an appropriate program for individual students. Assists students with all functions under the scope of each campus' respective Special Services departments, including test proctoring and some tutoring and coaching. Assists and advises students who are transitioning from the ACT program to credit-bearing courses. Observes and assists students in classroom and on-campus internship settings as outlined by ACT staff or the Directors of Special Services. Advises new, continuing, and returning students concerning appropriate course selection and academic planning including basic skills, pre-requisites, course sequencing and academic probation. Appropriately utilizes data system to assist students with registration (pre-requisite overrides degree evaluations, etc.). Advises new and returning students on policies and procedures that impact their enrollment status and educational objectives. Interprets, analyzes, and instructs students on degree evaluations. Advises students on careers and transfer opportunities related to major of study. Refers students for transfer-related advisement. Advises students on program selection and assists students who are changing majors. Assists in advising at all sessions of registration. Maintains confidential files of student contacts as directed by the Executive Director of ACT and the Directors of Special Services. Completes required paperwork and assigned tasks in an accurate and timely fashion. Maintains communications with students, supervisor(s), support staff, faculty and departments in the College. Assists with college wide orientation activities. Serves on various College committees as assigned. Assists with planning, implementing and conducting skills-development workshops deemed necessary for total student enrichment, based on students' needs. Assists with college activities related to student success, retention and transfer. Participates in training as designated by State and Federal agencies and RCSJ administration. Maintains compliance with State and Federal agencies applicable to those who work with individuals who are receiving benefits from those agencies (i.e., drug screening requirements, submission of required documentation). Performs other duties, as assigned Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in counseling, student personnel services, student development, or a related area preferred. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Applicable experience advising neurodiverse students in a community college or similar environment. • Ability to use current applicable hardware and software, including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point • Applicable experience with higher education system administration software, Ellucian products and Anthology preferred • Ability to work a flexible schedule with variable hours, includes evenings and possible weekends. • Demonstrated success in collaborating with all levels of the institution, and ability to work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community with a strong commitment to a comprehensive community college philosophy and a student-centered learning environment. • Commitment to and knowledge of a comprehensive community college philosophy and a student-centered learning environment. Flexible Spending Accounts: The flexible spending program allows you to deduct pre-tax dollars which can be used for co-pays, deductibles, dental, vision, and dependent day care. The medical limit is $2,650 per year, and the dependent care limit is $5,000 per year. Tuition Reimbursement/Waiver - RCSJ offers tuition reimbursement for up to 12 credits per fiscal year.
