POSITION SUMMARY: ULI is committed to building mutually beneficial relationships with major corporations through high-value programs, events, and content. Reporting to the Senior Vice President (SVP) for Corporate Partnerships & Strategy, the Head of Business Development is responsible for all elements of the corporate fundraising while also assisting in the alignment of core initiatives and ULI's corporate supporters. Broadly, ULI is focused on identifying and unlocking opportunities to broaden and deepen corporate partner engagement. S/he will offer comprehensive account management for a set of prospective corporate partners, with a focus on securing high level event sponsors, negotiating, fulfilling, and supporting long-term engagements. The Head of Business Development will also play a primary role in working with the content team at ULI to build relationships with funding partners for content-related work, such as publications and reports. The Head of Business Development will be highly collaborative, have good communication, presentation, sales skills, and excel at business development. In addition, the Vice President will be well organized, be an effective problem solver with an ability to interact with others with grace and ease under pressure. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: With the Senior Vice President, create and execute a business development and account management strategy that meets sales goals, generates a sustained base of partners by working closely with colleagues focused on account relationship management responsibilities, and expands long-term corporate engagement with ULI's strategic priorities. Prepare and track proposals and quarterly reports to monitor all corporate donor activities and progress against targets. Carry out high-touch relationships with ULI's corporate partners and serve as an exceptional brand steward who ensures the commitments are met and that ULI continually exceeds expectations. Engage in direct fundraising tasks, including prospect research, sales calls, and face-to-face meetings, and developing and writing proposals in order to achieve revenue goals. Build and manage a eight-figure annual sales budget across multiple business line items to achieve revenue targets for the Institute. Manage one direct report. QUALIFICATIONS: Ideal candidates will bring a measurable track record of success in business development and/or account management; strong analytical, strategic planning, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects; and exceptional team leadership skills coupled with a collaborative approach to developing and executing strategic initiatives. The candidate should have a genuine commitment to the mission of the Urban Land Institute. Track record of securing six and seven figure investments from corporations and/or foundations. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement institutional partnership strategies that sustainably increase revenue for an organization. Ability to analyze, conceptualize, and describe funding needs in a way that is compelling to potential donors, strategic partners, and other stakeholders. Exceptional organizational skills; ability to develop and execute plans efficiently and effectively and to develop, manage, and track an annual management process. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications, with a track record of writing compelling and successful proposals. Experience communicating with senior level executives and engaging them in a business development, sales, or fundraising process. Executive presence and comfort with public speaking. 8-10 years of business development or fundraising experience in the public or private sector.. Experience in and/or understanding of commercial real estate/issues of land use/universe of the built environment is useful but not required. OTHER: Bachelor's degree is required. Hybrid role, with two to three days in office located in downtown Washington DC. Travel expected up to 25% of the time.
