Description Position at Long Island Rail Road Title: Field Engineer - Elevator and Escalator Department: Engineering Post Date: 11/06/2024 Close Date: 11/20/2024 100% Hourly Rate of Pay: $50.(See Wage Progression Chart) Position Classification: Safety Sensitive Location: Queens Reports To: Manager Elevator & Escalator Operations Union Affiliation: Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman - Local 241 Please note that this position has been designated as a "Policy Maker," pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics. As such, you will be required to complete a Financial Disclosure Statement that will be provided to you by the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics. SUMMARY : The Field Engineer - Elevator and Escalator is responsible to protect the interests of the LIRR including Grand Central Madison (GMC) during installation, testing, upgrades, repairs and all preventive maintenance on all elevators and escalators on LIRR property. Perform inspections, monitor daily trouble tickets, maintain record keeping and all other tasks concerning elevators and escalators on LIRR property. Ensure all safety regulations are adhered to regarding elevators and escalators. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Perform daily inspections of LIRR's elevators and escalators which also include reviewing third party (service) contractors, performing any work related to these units such as preventative maintenance and remedy, all repairs. Prepare and submit reports of any discrepancies to maintenance contractors on a timely basis. Perform audits of work performed by third party contractors and create f/u reports. Oversee all ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) required elevator and escalator inspections. Manage daily elevator and escalator trouble tickets. Assist in the record keeping and Bin history reports for elevators and escalators which monitors for repeat problems. Generate and distribute open issues and all other reports pertaining to elevator and escalator. Oversee the construction and installation of elevators and escalators and the acceptance inspections. Conduct milestone inspections, write follow up reports. Review and approve all elevator and escalator monthly maintenance and report invoices for proper backup and pricing. Review, collect and file all PM check lists, Combplate testing reports, Cat1, Cat5 reports, and any other forms submitted by contractor and field engineers. Training: Attend seminars related to professional field LIRR training courses and any other approved continuing education programs. Impart technical knowledge to peers and colleagues throughout the Engineering Department. Actively participate in creation and maintenance of a safe work environment following corporate and department guidelines and safety policies. Motivate yourself and others. Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs and maintenance using small hand and power tools. Conduct training of MTA PD, Fire Departments, and Stations Department personnel in safe entrapment release, and escalator starting procedures. Perform public outreach of safe elevator and escalator use. Daily and weekend coverage (24/7) for emergency response and trouble calls on a rotating schedule. Perform related duties as requested by Management. QUALIFICATIONS: A). Required Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field required. Four years of demonstrated, directly related, equivalent experience and education may be considered in lieu of the degree. Must be QEI Certified or become certified within one year of appointment to position. Minimum 2 years of related mechanic/inspector of elevator and escalator experience. Experience on new elevator and escalator construction and inspections. Must possess professional experience of working with engineers, architects, consultants and/or State/City agencies. Must possess effective oral and written communication and organizational skills with the ability to write inspection reports. Must possess proficient computer skills including MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and Acrobat Creator, and mobile device among others. Must possess facilities background to recognize, analyze and provide solutions to technical problems. Must be able to read and interpret contract drawings, blueprints, electrical schematics and specifications. Must possess contracts and TSOW review skills to be able to create and review related documents. Must be able to communicate effectively with contractor personnel, project management team and upper management. Must possess a valid-unrestricted, driver's license. B.) Preferred An intimate knowledge of the LIRR system and operations.
