Perform other work such as welding, cutting, metal work and general repair. Assist with campus vehicle needs as required. Manage compliance requirements.Job Description:Responsibilities:1. Performs routine preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles, boom truck, lifts, heavy equipment, grounds equipment, electric/gas utility vehicles /golf carts and small engines to include oil and oil filter changes, lubrication, and checking of belts, spark plugs, tires, brakes, batteries, clutch and hydraulic fluid to determine if replacement/repairs are necessary.2. Performs repairs and replacement of parts as needed as a result of preventive maintenance checks, inspections, work orders, equipment breakdowns or service calls, by general trouble shooting and use of diagnostic tools.3. Orders and picks up parts for maintenance and repair of vehicles from specified vendors.4. Maintain a detailed vehicle maintenance history and report out as required.5. Performs vehicle fleet inspections and ensures that all vehicle registrations are kept current.6. Manage vehicle accident repairs. Obtains repair estimates, transports vehicles to and from repair facilities, assists in selecting auto body shops, ensures quality repairs and is responsible for repair work accepted.7. Manage general upgrades for fleet vehicles. Purchase and install after-market components or select vendor to perform upgrades as situations . Manage off-campus vehicle breakdowns. Facilitate the proper protocols - safety, insurance and documentation per . Use shop tools - lifts, jacks, tire machine, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, welders, torches, plasma cutters, battery chargers, tire plug kits, presses and all other specialty tools.10. Daily use of computer for work orders, Work Day, reporting, record keeping, research, training and purchasing.11. Perform welding, cutting and fabrication work on various equipment.12. Maintain a clean shop area - floor, storage areas, tools, etc.13. Manage the gas and diesel fuel system - pumps, pump key system, storage tanks (above ground and underground)14. Support events, bad weather days and emergencies as needed.15. Possible call backs16. Follow safety and compliance procedures that pertain to the Automotive Shop - manage OSHA, DEHC and ReWa requirements, critical dates for licensing requirements and all compliance requirements17. Comply with all performance review process requirements in a timely manner. Set goals with your supervisors.18. Communicate appropriately and openly with customers, co-workers and supervisor.19. Keep current with appropriate training and certifications as reviewed and approved by the supervisor.20. Personal cell phone is required (possible call backs and emergencies)Relationships:Continuous contact with member(s) of the Automotive Shop and immediate supervisor, customers and campus community.Frequent contact with students and general public.Responsibility for Final Decisions:Decision making and choosing the appropriate option or procedure - following and applying policies and procedures that result in the purchase, repair and/or replacement of components.Decisions pertaining to compliance - Furman safety policies/procedures, OSHA, DEHC and ReWa requirements, meeting critical dates for licensing requirements and all compliance requirements associated with operating the Automotive ShopReports To: Director of Facilities ServicesWork is performed independently, within the Automotive Shop on routine work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the supervisor.Education/Skill Requirements:High School graduate or equivalent with 5+ years experience in related fieldAbility to read and interpret instructions, descriptions and diagrams in equipment/vehicle manuals.Must be able to operate general Microsoft Office tasks and have the ability to learn Work Day (Furman's purchasing and HR software)S.C. Drivers License.Ability to obtain required certificationsWork Conditions:Work is performed in the automotive shop or outside with exposure to heat, cold, noise, chemical / solvent odors and internal combustion engine odors (the shop is ventilated via exhaust fan and garage doors). Work requires:Continuous use of chemicals such as degreaser, window cleaner, waxes, oil, fuel, antifreeze, etc.Continuous use of hand tools including wrenches, files, hammers, screwdrivers, manual drills, hose cutter, clamps, crowbar, air tools requiring gripping, turning, twisting, adjusting, welding, etc.Continuous bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, using creeper (on back) to access vehicles/ equipment.Frequent climbing up onto equipment/vehicles.Education Requirements:Certification Requirements:Job Posting End Date (if date is blank, posting is open ended):
