Youth Sports: As the program lead, you will have the opportunity to assist with organizing and implementing program needs. This will include assisting in facility operations, overseeing pee wee sports, youth rookie sports and Special Olympics. You will play a key role in creating memorable experiences for our community's citizens. Volunteer Programs: In this leadership role, you will play a key part shaping the future of our city's year-round volunteer program. As the program lead, you will have the opportunity to oversee, organize, develop, and execute a variety of city-wide volunteer programs and events, including Adopt-A-Trail, Adopt-A-Park, and the Summer Volunteer Program. As a Recreation Specialist, you'll work under the guidance of a Community Services Coordinator. This part-time position is year-round, at-will, and non-benefited, allowing for a maximum of 29 hours of work per week. The schedule may vary and can include weekends, evenings, and holidays. This position might be perfect for you Some of the essential Recreation Specialist duties you may be responsible for: Supervise and lead program participants in a safe and welcoming environment. Demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills. Maintain a safe program environment for participants. Interacting with co-workers at all levels of the City and the public in a collaborative and customer service-oriented manner. Assist with clerical administrative duties as needed, operating a computer and related software. Prepare accident and incident reports and other records as needed. Attend all required City and staff development trainings and meetings. Deal firmly and tactfully with participants; exercise tact and judgment when resolving problems. Youth Sports Responsibilities: Plan, organize, lead and supervise group activities and programs such as indoor/outdoor games, sports, special events and other related activities Research and prepare the order for necessary equipment and supplies; recommend budgetary expenditures; organize and monitor equipment and supply inventory. Assist in evaluating program operations, staffing, and curriculum and provide recommendations as needed. Assist in the opening and closing City facilities; ensure facilities are secure upon closing. Interact with co-workers at all levels of the City and the public in a collaborative and customer service-oriented manner. Volunteer Program Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate and implement a variety of recreation activities and programs; develop participant interests, enthusiasm and participation. Provide excellent customer service to program participants and community members by answering program questions and communicating program updates. Be creative, have an innovative attitude and the ability to keep current on Recreation/Community Services trends and programming. Assist in evaluating program operations, staffing, and curriculum and provide recommendations as needed. Deal firmly and tactfully with participants; exercise tact and judgment when resolving problems. Both positions may perform other related duties as assigned. Desired Qualifications for Youth Sports - Candidates should have experience working in youth sports programming and demonstrated leadership in a recreational environment. Desired Qualifications Volunteer Programs - Candidates should have experience in organizing, coordinating, or implementing volunteer programs in either a municipal or non-profit setting, and demonstrated leadership experience in a recreational environment. EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent. LICENSE: Possession of a California Class C driver's license. REQUIRED CERTIFICATION: First Aid/CPR and AED Certification for Infants/Adults completed through or acknowledged by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Prospective employees who are selected for employment must successfully complete a medical examination which includes drug screening, TB testing and background check, which is paid for by the City. The background check will include being LiveScan fingerprinted through the Department of Justice. Employment for this group is part-time, non-benefited, and at-will. Part-time employees are paid an hourly rate based on hours worked and typically work up to 29 hours or less per week. It is important to note that as an at-will employee, there are no rights to employment, and employment may end without cause or advance notice due to program needs. The City of Chino Hills does not pay into the Social Security System. Therefore, all part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees of the City are required to sign up for the employee retirement program administered by Voya PST Deferred Compensation Plan (457). Employees will contribute 7.5% of their earnings per pay period, with the City contributing 2.5%, and the remaining 5.0% to be deducted from the employee's paycheck. All contributions will be made on a pre-tax basis. All employees are required to participate in the Medicare program and contribute 1.45% of their salary to the program. ELIGIBLE FOR: Sick Leave - In accordance with California state law effective January 1, 2024, part-time employees are entitled to 40 hours of paid sick leave in a 12-month period. These hours are eligible for use following your 90th day of employment with the City. Salary Step Increase - The salary range consists of five (5) steps, with step increases based on annual anniversary date and satisfactory performance.
