Position: Director of Finance Position Overview The Director of Finance will oversee the financial health of Hudson River Housing. This role involves strategic financial planning, managing budgets, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing leadership to the finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to the mission of the organization. General Description: Director of Finance responsibilities include supervising staff, monitoring maintaining and vouchering grants (when necessary), reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Director of Finance combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. Principal Duties: Supervise accounting staff Maintain grant budgets and monitor monthly grant expenditures and ensure timely submission of vouchers to funders Reconcile account balances, bank accounts, and maintain intercompany general ledgers Assisting during annual audit and periodic audits by oversight agencies. Assist with the preparation of the annual operating budget. Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures Prepare financial statements and produce budgets according to schedule Support month-end and year-end close process Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls Ensure compliance with GAAP principles Prepare and monitor annual budgets and forecasts. Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making. Oversee all financial transactions and ensure accurate accounting practices. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements. Manage and mentor the finance team, promoting professional development. Foster a collaborative work environment. Liaise with other departments to ensure financial alignment across the organization. Assist in budgeting and financial reporting for grants and fundraising activities. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education/Knowledge: BS degree in Accounting or related field required as well as 5 years accounting experience and 2 years supervisory experience. In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Requires a proficient knowledge of Excel. Preference given for not-for-profit and or fund accounting experience. Knowledge of Financial Edge NXT and Yardi is a plus. License Requirements: Valid driver`s license Other: Requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; must be a self-starter, organized and detail-oriented, able to multi-task, have intermediate math skills, foresight, planning, flexibility and ability to pay great attention to detail. After 6 months potential for flexibility with some work from home hours.
