Electrical Design Engineer with EPLAN Exp: 5-8 Years Rate: $60.00/hr on C2C Location: Lewis Center, OH, ONSITE ROLE MAJOR DUTIES: Produces complete control solutions and electrical design packages based on customer specifications and standardized design practices used at ATS. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with mechanical designers during the mechanical design process to design a control system that will enable the machine to perform its intended function safely and reliably. Formulate and produce a complete electrical design package, which includes detailed electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials and material requisitions, based on ATS standard specifications and the customers' requirements. Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality and reduced cost. Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to ensure that labor budgets and material budgets are adhered to or improved upon. Specify all electrical and controls-related hardware and software and produce requisitions for material purchases. Integrate third party equipment and electronic component entry into electrical design packages. Examples include serial and network communications, hardware handshaking, opto-isolation, electrical and ultrasonic welding applications, vision systems, motion control products, transducers and signal conditioners. Verify that electrical design package is complete, accurate and safe based on sound design practices and accepted standards, and that the I/O drawings meet program requirements prior to issue to shop floor. Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional system. Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology. Provide customers with training specific to their current project (i.e. electrical hardware, machine operation, programming principles, program functionality and program structure). Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct. Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures. Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods. Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts. Report defect in any equipment or protective device. Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks. Attend all required health, safety and environmental training. Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor. Assist in investigating accidents/incidents. Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) REQUIREMENTS Due to arc flash and shock hazards, voltage-rated gloves and 100% cotton, long-sleeve shirts must be worn at all times when working on live panels. Employees must comply at all times with the specific PPE requirements identified on the ARC Flash and Shock Hazard Warning Labels (see below for your information.) These will be posted at Switchgear locations, breaker panels, bus ducts and equipment-related power drops. Please refer to the Workplace Electrical Safety Program for specific details. Education: A post-secondary technology diploma, engineering degree, or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical, or controls technology. Experience: Five years experience in electrical control systems design, preferably in the industrial automation field. Experience with EPLAN and AutoCAD and keeping abreast of leading-edge technology is essential.
