Position Overview: The Head of Underwriting will manage all underwriting activities for solar projects across select states, overseeing financial modeling, risk assessment, and project acquisition. The role involves cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and external partners, applying knowledge of state-specific solar programs, regulatory bodies, and offtake structures to achieve project success.Key Responsibilities:Project Underwriting:Lead underwriting for solar projects, focusing on project economics, cash flow projections, and risk assessment.Perform comprehensive due diligence, including reviewing contracts, interconnection agreements, and regulatory approvals.Develop and maintain financial models reflecting state-specific incentive programs, regulatory frameworks, and offtake structures.Regulatory & Market Knowledge:Stay updated on solar incentive programs, Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) requirements, and relevant regulatory bodies.Utilize insights into offtake structures and market dynamics in target states, incorporating this understanding into underwriting models.Risk Management:Identify and manage risks related to project development, interconnection, and regulatory compliance.Ensure that underwriting decisions align with realistic assessments of market conditions and regulatory processes.Collaboration & Reporting:Coordinate with project development, finance, legal, and engineering teams to align underwriting models with project details and timelines.Prepare and present underwriting reports and financial analyses for senior management, investors, and financing partners.Team Leadership:Lead and mentor the underwriting team, fostering a performance-oriented culture.Implement best practices for financial modeling, risk management, and underwriting processes.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related field (MBA or CFA preferred).Over 7 years of underwriting experience in renewable energy or project finance, especially within solar DG.Strong knowledge of solar incentive programs and regulatory bodies across relevant states.Advanced financial modeling skills, with expertise in project finance, tax equity, and debt structuring.Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork abilities.
