Description Amazon is seeking a talented, and motivated Power Engineer to work on specifying and integrating 100-600VAC power supplies and batteries within industrial automation products. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing the electrical connections inside industrial electrical AC/DC and DC/DC cabinets with voltages in the 100-600VAC and 5-60VDC ranges. This candidate must have the ability to work well both independently and in team settings. This position reports directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager. This team has directly designed the electronics in several robots, some of which have >500,000 units deployed throughout the Amazon's global industrial Fulfillment Network - and our team is continuing to design more products with incredible impact! Key job responsibilities -Design Industrial Electrical Control Panel schematics following industry best practices. -Review specifications and schematics for compliance with relevant safety standards such as NFPA79 and UL508a. -Work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including design, prototyping, validation, testing and certification. -Specify, Integrate and Deploy AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies as part of Electrical Control Panels in industrial automation equipment. -Specify, Integrate and Deploy semi-custom batteries and super-capacitors in industrial automation systems. -Ensure the specifications of the power system meet the customer needs as well as regulatory requirements. -Coordinate all activities within the engineering discipline for the project. -Ensure coordination with other disciplines is effective for each project. -Thorough understanding of technical principles and concepts in Electrical Engineering . -Write and develop functional specifications, design verification plans and test procedures. -Supporting product releases to manufacturing and customer deployments. -Execute tasks to aggressive schedules. -Establish development processes to meet industry standards for functionally safe control systems (IEC 61508). A day in the life You will actively engage with external AC/DC, DC/DC, battery, and supercapacitor suppliers to understand their products and integrate them into robotic systems. In learning about the products and our customers you will collaborate with suppliers to design engineering test systems for these products. You will leverage your industry experience and deep dive customer and regulatory demands to integrate these new products into our custom automation systems. There will be active participation within an interdisciplinary team working to iterate on the design optimizing across cost, schedule and time to market. Basic Qualifications Experience with prototyping and implementation Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures. 5+ years of experience designing the electrical connections inside industrial electrical AC/DC and DC/DC cabinets with voltages in the 100-600VAC and 5-60VDC ranges. Experience specifying COTs components for use within 100-600VAC systems: Breakers, relays and fuses Power line filters and choke design and selection Power factor correction Energy storage and regeneration (UPS, batteries, super capacitors, etc.) design and selection Energy dissipation (bleeder resistors) design and selection Experience with electrical enclosure design including layout best practices. Ability to lead a technical team Experience executing design reviews in front of interdisciplinary teams Demonstrated strong ability to move seamlessly between levels of abstraction - from system to the "nuts and bolts" implementation. Extensive system design interfacing to a wide array of electro-mechanical subsystems and debugging experience Commitment to rigorous testing practices and design process flows Preferred Qualifications Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume 2+ years of experience designing 100-5,000Wh batteries or supercapacitors into mobile or stationary production systems. Expertise in designing electrical cabinets using EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar tools.
