Position Type: Classified Staff/Custodian Date Posted: 10/28/2024 Location: Upper Arlington High School UPPER ARLINGTON CITY SCHOOLS Position: Custodian - 3rd shift Time Schedule: 12 months Building: Upper Arlington High School Hours: 8 hours per day 5 days per week Monday-Friday 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM Salary Rate or Ratio: Hourly $22.03 - $24.46 ($0.35 shift differenital) Reports to: Mike Abbott, Executive Director of Operations Employment Status: Classified - Regular/Full-time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Probationary Period: 120 days Description: Provide a clean and safe environment for student's staff, and community. Responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in school building and on adjacent property. Perform general custodial duties, e.g., empty trash, vacuum carpet, sweep, mop, dust, wax, and maintain. Assist head custodian as needed with cleaning and maintaining during the daily operation of school. Work as a team to assist with set up and tear down of school and non school events. NOTE: The lists below are not ranked in order of importance: Qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) One to two years related experience Such alternatives to the above Supervisor and/or Board of Education may find appropriate Essential Functions: Ensure safety of students Schedule cleaning to meet needs of building and complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner Empty and clean waste receptacles, trash pails, and pencil sharpeners Remove cobwebs and clean windows Polish furniture and woodwork Transport all necessary school custodial supplies Load and unload trucks as needed Ensure the care, condition, appearance, repair or replacement of all physical equipment, building, facilities, and grounds Promote good safety practices and procedures Clean and sanitize assigned school, e.g., restrooms, classrooms, spills, etc. Use, measure and relabeling chemicals Wash all furniture, walls, halls, windows, window seals, and doors Clean tables and student desks nightly Disinfect water fountains and water coolers Spot mop and mop classrooms Remove writing on walls, dry erase boards, and other writing areas Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy Maintain respect at all times for confidential information Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents Dispose of debris and maintain equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner Report to building administration and or custodial director any damaged, broken, loose fixtures and/or equipment Adjust to various locations and work requirements as needed, perform other duties as assigned by the building administration and custodial director Perform minor repairs as appropriate Request needed equipment, materials and supplies Perform seasonal duties such as salting and snow removal, litter removal, and other duties as directed by the building administration and custodial director Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers and bathroom tissue in all school building restrooms Check boiler room nightly for orderliness, cleanliness and safety, etc. Secure building nightly Clean and maintain custodial equipment and materials Repair equipment and buildings as needed Complete paperwork as required by the supervisor Attend meetings and in-services as required Maintain a daily work routine as established by the building administration and custodial director to adequately service the buildings, grounds, and personnel Check building to assure maximum security (walking building after school hours and secures doors, windows, security gates and other entrances) Turning off and on lights as needed Sweep, clean, mop, wash, scrub, strip, seal, wax, dust, wipe shampoo and vacuum all surfaces to maintain cleanliness throughout building and grounds Keep work and storage areas neat and orderly Tour building periodically and remain alert for dangerous, hazardous conditions, or items in need of maintenance Help with set up tear down and clean-up of equipment and furniture for special events and use of building for school and community functions Maintain records as requested by the building administration and custodial director Clean hallway glass display cases Clean school building lounges Promote good public relations Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings Such alternatives to the above essential functions as the Supervisor and/or Board of Education may find appropriate Other Duties and Responsibilities: Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner Pass on to other employees instructions and requests received from the building administration and custodial supervisor Maintain building security system ensures building is secure and locked Ability climb and remain stable at heights up to 25 feet Replace light bulbs in fixtures (up to 25 feet) Unclog sinks toilets as needed using chemical and plungers Maintain accurate inventory of all custodial equipment, materials and supplies Perform routine maintenance as required Assist with repairs as assigned Maintain security lights and exit signs Assist in the control of all custodial tools and supplies Assist work crews on assigned tasks and be a team player Perform yearly inventory of work area, supplies and equipment Perform other duties as assigned by the building administration and custodial director Serve as a role model for the District. Equipment Operated: Computer and/or hand held device Vacuum cleaners, rotary and guided machines such as scrubbing and carpet cleaners Wet/dry mops and brooms Various hand tools, e.g., knives, screwdrivers and other custodial hand tools Wet and dry vac Floor waxing machine Ladders Snow blower and shovels Various power tools Scrubbers and buffers Power washer Two way radios Additional Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue Occasional interaction with unruly adults and children Occasional requirement to work near moving mechanical parts Occasional requirement to work in high places Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles and dangerous chemicals Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, e.g., requirement to work outdoors during all types of weather Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., waxing, mopping, sweeping, washing Occasional requirement to lift and carry various items up to a maximum of 65 pounds Occasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 300 pounds (on wheels) Operation of equipment (snow blower, salt spreader, snow shovel) under inclement weather conditions i.e., being prepared to come to work on all scheduled workdays Frequent climbing of ladders and stairs Frequent excessive standing Frequent excessive exposure to noise, e.g., power tools, vacuum sweeper Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout school building Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment Employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment with the District.
