Description We are seeking a Foreign Toponymist with expertise in foreign languages to maintain the federal government's official repository of foreign geographic names information. This role involves analyzing and providing accurate geographic names information, maintaining data in the Geographic Names Database, and utilizing GIS software for data refinement. The ideal candidate must be proficient in a foreign language and possess experience with geospatial tools and research methodologies. Primary Responsibilities: Analyze and provide conflated information associated with geographic data, in compliance with policies and customer guidance. Contribute to the refinement of names information for geospatial products and respond to user questions using geospatial tools and research knowledge. Accurately enter and maintain data to update the Geographic Names Database. Research, order, scan, and geo-reference sources to enhance geographic accuracy. Interpret and apply policies governing the treatment of names and guidelines from related organizations. Research using GIS software, common office business software, and internet and general research tools. Research and recommend new source material for production. Basic Qualifications: Proficiency in a foreign language. Bachelors' degree or equivalent experience and less than 2 years of prior relevant experience. US Citizenship required and must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance. Demonstrated experience with GIS software. Basic understanding of application of Geographic Names collection methodologies. Experience in research and information gathering. Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in Python Scripting. Regional Geographic proficiency in the geographies of the analyst's area of responsibility. Original Posting Date: Pay Range: $42,250.00 - $76,375.00 The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation.
