Ideal candidate can sit out of either of our following offices: Billerica, MA, Frederick, MD or Durham, NC. Essential Duties and responsibilities Hire, develop, train, and manage estimators. Provide close guidance and sufficient training for less experienced estimators. Assist in identification and evaluation of new methods and hardware that could improve the efficiency of the department. Work with the preconstruction and sales to secure new work in this market. Estimate projects when the estimators are already assigned to other projects. Review specifications and bid documents. Work with the bid sponsor and purchasing to retrieve special material pricing, equipment quotes, and subcontractor quotes. Clarify with architect, owner, or engineer discrepancies as they relate to the drawings or specifications. Provide recommendations to the estimating manager or project manager on value engineering items that could reduce the bid price. Ensure that ALL take-offs and material pricing are accurate. With a solid understanding of the project and site conditions, help determines difficulty factoring. Help determine general conditions requirements, rental equipment requirements, project manager requirements, crew costs, etc. Update material pricing in QuoteSoft by coordinating with purchasing for new prices. Update master tables and assemblies and bid specific tables on a regular basis. Work closely with the preconstruction manager to assembly all this information and incorporate it into a clear and well-defined proposal. Provide back up for the Pre-construction Manager. Qualifications Must have substantial knowledge of the industries we serve. Ideal candidate will have a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Admin or related field. Must have 10+ years of estimating experience. Must have 5+ years of experience estimating process piping, plumbing and mechanical systems. Be skilled at reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications. Be proficient and able to train others in QuoteSoft software. Have clear understanding of sheet metal estimating program with the intent of being proficient in using it in the future. Working conditions Works inside corporate office, branch, satellite, or job site office(s) when required to perform the work assigned. Physical requirements This job could require sitting and standing for extended periods of time and completing repetitive tasks. Long periods of computer usage.
