BASIC FUNCTION: Lead and work with a crew of mechanics in the repair of gasoline and diesel powered buses. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles of internal combustion engines, both gas and diesel. Repair methods for various components of school buses and automotive equipment. Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, adjustment and repair of heavy duty automotive equipment. Principles and methods used in a program of preventive maintenance for fleet equipment. ABILITY TO: Communicate effectively in the English language. Diagnose and repair complex mechanical malfunctions. Direct the work of journey-level mechanics. Work cooperatively with others. Read and understand technical repair manuals, electrical diagrams and specifications. Estimate the cost of repairs. Order supplies and equipment. Use basic math to interpret measuring instruments. Use the tools and equipment necessary in the repair and maintenance of heavy-duty fleet equipment. Maintain records. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: The following MUST be attached to application on or before the deadline: * High School Diploma OR Equivalent OR * Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree or Higher Education Degree SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSCERTIFICATES: Valid California Class B driver's license or higher. Incumbents in this position are required to furnish their own standard automotive mechanic hand tools. The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination with the cost paid by the District. A pre-employment drug screening will also be administered. A practical skills test may be administered at the time of interview. If selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B. tested and fingerprinted.
