The Opportunity This non-permanent part time position assists in the staffing the Traffic Management Center (TMC) for continuous (247) operations. This position will assist in covering shifts when the full-time operator is absent and by augmenting normal staffing when necessary due to increased workload during emergencies such as region wide storm events or major traffic incidents. What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the TSSO 1 will: * Monitor TMC telephones, assigned 800 MHz radio frequencies and WSP microwave intercom continuously during assigned shift. * Maintain a comprehensive log of calls received and action taken. * Immediately notify WSP dispatch, TMC supervisor andor maintenance supervisor of major incidents or those requiring rapid response or notification. * Maintain contact with WSDOT units in the field by phone or radio and relay information necessary. * Function as the interim Emergency Operation Center (EOC) until the SCR EOC is activated. * Maintain awareness of all incidents, maintenance or construction projects, and road or weather conditions impacting traffic on state highways in the region. * Assess seriousness and urgency of incidents and conditions reported and select the appropriate traffic management response based on region policies and guidance from the TMC supervisor. * Operate a personal computer workstation utilizing general computing applications and programs. Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: * High School Diploma, GED certificate. * One (1) year of proven experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously under challenging deadlines. * One (1) year of experience using electronic equipment such as computers, phones, and other technology that pertains to the operation of a traffic management center. * One (1) year of experience working independently and prioritizing workload with the ability to handle multiple assignments with a high level of attention to detail to ensure work is completed with few to no errors. * Ability to report to the TMC within 60 minutes. It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: * Ability to type 30 words per minute with 95% accuracy. Important Notes * This is a Part-time, non-permanent opportunity, expected to last six to 12 months. * This position may be required to work night shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as scheduled to support the 247 operation of the TMC. * In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
