Overview Under general supervision of the Sr. Sustainability Manager, the Loading Dock Manager will oversee the daily operations of our dock facilities at McCormick Place. They will be responsible for the overall leadership, planning, administration, and management of the McCormick Place Convention Center (MCPL) dock operations and logistics. The Loading Dock Manager will collaborate with various internal MCPL departments, clients, exhibitors, vendors, and contract partners to coordinate and execute the move-in and move-out processes for events, ensuring compliance with MCPL policies. Additionally, the Manager will oversee our loading dock personnel (General Service Contractor, Waste Management, Event Labor, etc.) to ensure efficient and safe movement of materials from the docks. This role will pay a salary of $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 Benefits for FT roles: Benefits: Health, Dental and Vision insurance, 401(k) savings plan, 401(k) matching, and paid time off (vacation days, sick days, and 12 holidays). This position will remain open until December 31, 2024. Responsibilities Plan, organize, and manage the dock operations to ensure efficient and safe handling of materials and equipment. Maintain accurate records of dock activities, including scheduling, staffing, packages, and equipment usage. Manager, maintain and reinforces safety policies and procedures, including regular safety inspections and training for our employees related to loading dock area. Reports and establishes a regular maintenance schedule for all loading docks and associated equipment, to maintain a safe, secure, and clean environment with appropriate MCPL personnel. Reviews loading dock plans and schedules, in collaboration with the Public Safety and Event Management, ensuring all plans comply with the MCPL's policies and with the appropriate personnel. Works in collaboration with the General Service Contractor, Event Management and Public Safety to review all requests relating to equipment staging or other adjustments to the loading dock operation plan. Responsible for the supervision of loading dock logistics, ensuring the efficient operation for all areas of responsibility, including product, people and machinery. Collaborates with Event Management and Hospitality to produce anticipated schedule of loading dock (at least 2 weeks prior) on logistical operations on all in-house loading docks. Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate dock operations and identify areas for improvement. Implement process enhancements to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and increase overall efficiency. Analyze data and generate reports to track key performance indicators and make informed decisions. Elevate current dock operation and recommend improvement with regards to logistics, equipment, maintenance, and signage. Coordinate with maintenance personnel or external service providers to promptly address any equipment malfunctions or breakdowns. Maintain cleanliness and organization within the dock area. Perform Pre-Event and Post-Event Inspections of the exhibit halls and in-house dock locations. Collaborate with all personnel to ensure that waste items are disposed of properly. Oversee and ensure all recyclable items are being disposed of in the correct containers. Oversee and ensure all compactors are being properly used and all waste is being removed from the tipper. Working in partnership with all parties that access waste streams throughout campus, conduct on-the-dock trainings and review SOP as-needed. Work with the Operations Manager, Food Service Provider and Waste Hauler on compactor maintenance and operation. Provide input and guidance on all dock related purchases. Oversee and create a process with Food Service Provider on disposal of food waste. Responsible for issuing violations to Contractors and Key Stake holders for violations of Dock Operations policies and/or procedures. Responsible for ensuring that all stakeholders' equipment is properly staged and in approved locations. Responsible for ensuring all vehicles have the appropriate dock pass. Ensure Automobile and Small Utility Vehicle dock areas and roadways for exhibitor unloading are clear of obstructions. Collaborate with the Operation Manager and Hospitality on Dock cleaning schedules. Assist the Sustainability Manager on establishing move-in and move-out waste removal programs to increase sustainability numbers and improve diversity rates. Conduct waste audits, noting waste streams and end-user practices with opportunities for improvement.Monitor special collection bins, such as e-waste, donations, carpet recycling, etc. Responsible for attending all planning and operations meetings with clients, contractors and other stakeholders. Assist with the approval of requests from Contractors to leave equipment on campus in various areas. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred. Proven experience (5-7 years) in Dock or Warehouse Management, Convention Centers, Hospitality or Event Management fields. Solid understanding of logistics operations, inventory management, and shipping/receiving processes. Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen eye for detail. Proficient in using warehouse management systems, inventory control software, and other relevant tools. Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards in the logistics industry. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Working knowledge of the principles of facility management, services, and equipment for a similar venue. Previous experience in a public assembly venue in a similar position, highly desirable. Must possess the ability to work independently and thrive in a constantly changing environment. A team-player who is energetic and forward thinking with strong analytical skills, good judgment, and a strong operational focus. A well-organized individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization, possesses excellent communication skills, strong negotiation and decision-making skills, good judgment, an ability to multi-task, and is committed to the MCPL's mission of delivering superior customer service. The work schedule for this position fluctuates based upon the needs of a particular event or project, which would require the ability to work a flexible schedule including late nights, early mornings, long days, weekends and holidays. Perform all duties in a professional productive manner with the aim of delivering a superior level of customer service to ensure a successful event and experience for the client. Forklift training and certification preferred. OSHA knowledge and reporting required.
