The Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Paralegal (Mass Torts) to join our Firm. Within this position, you will be responsible for providing legal practice assistants, paralegals, attorneys, and other professional staff with diversified administrative and case support by handling complex tasks and projects, with limited supervision, throughout all phases and aspects of Litigation work. This position will be based in our New York office and has a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule. Please note that the Firm will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position. As the Senior Paralegal (Mass Torts) you will: Assist with the preparation and filing of arbitration, mediation, state court, and Federal Court pleadings and other papers. Prepare and handle technical, complex filings, including sealing procedures. Proofread and record checks briefs, memoranda of law, opinions, mediation statements, and other documents. Provide support throughout all phases of discovery, including document review, production, and depositions. Assist with complex tracking and data analysis projects. Assist with preparation for interviews, depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations/trials, and/or client meetings. Lead case teams by managing work flow of paralegals, prioritizing assignments, and liaising with attorneys across offices to ensure deadlines are met. Provide guidance, mentorship, and feedback to case teams and junior paralegals. Handle advanced, complex projects, and provides project management skills to effectively lead projects and teams. Organize and manage electronic and paper files. Ensure that all files are maintained within Department-approved protocols and case management systems and seek to improve workflow regarding storage and recall of materials. Maintain the integrity of client files. Assist with retrieval of rules, regulations, and company profiles, as needed. Assist with document productions, transactions, and/or closings. Assist with preparation for interviews, depositions, hearings, trials, and/or client meetings. Proofread briefs, memoranda of law, opinions, and other documents. Perform cross-reference and defined terms checks, as needed. Perform non-legal research using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, SEC/EDGAR, and other media and financial services sites, and/or other court-related websites for case law, statutes, articles, books, etc. Update attorney and case/deal team binders. Assist partners, associates, and other paralegals across practice areas and throughout departments, as needed. Qualifications: Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems Ability to navigate various electronic databases and document repositories Strong research skills and proficiency in using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, SEC/EDGAR, and other court-related websites, and/or media and financial services Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational and planning skills Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing Ability to work well independently, as well as effectively, within a team Ability to assume responsibility for assigned projects and tasks Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality Ability to organize and prioritize work Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment Ability to work well under pressure Demonstrates close attention to detail Flexibility to travel, as required Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree Minimum of six (6) years' experience in a paralegal position or a position requiring similar skillset, expertise, and experience Culture & Life at Skadden What makes Skadden special is our people and the culture, community and spirit of collaboration we have created. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.
