The Position East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified candidates to apply for this temporary (up to 6 months) position in the Payroll Unit of the Accounting Division. An Accountant I performs professional accounting work of moderate difficulty within a centralized accounting system. Typical responsibilities may include: * Preparing invoices, statements, and other correspondence for amounts due for disbursement requests. * Preparing and processing journal entries, including edit checks, budget checks, and postings. * Reconciling ledger accounts and preparing financial reports. * Preparing invoice requests and tax related documents for federal and state agencies. * Preparing and analyzing accounting systems input/output data. * Balancing and preparing annual 1099R statements and W-2s, if necessary. * Analyzing and reconciling retirement contributions. *. Maintaining time and labor records and preparing statistical and cost reports on retirement payroll and other EBMUD functions. * Preparing and analyzing data; working with computer information systems group with system programming and personnel regarding the processing of data and related systems errors. * Operating accounting systems for data entry and financial analysis. * Processing EBMUD Biweekly and monthly Employee Retirement Systems Payroll to meet established deadlines and schedules. * Preparing statistical analysis for internal rates and financial planning. * May direct the work of clerical employees and others. * Creating ad hoc reports for higher level management. * Assisting other Accounting Division staff with questions, report requests, and adjustments. * Interpreting, explaining, and applying related EBMUD accounting policies, procedures, and standards. * Answering questions from EBMUD staff, contractors, retirees, and other outside agencies. Requirements 1. A bachelor's degree* in Accounting or a closely-related field which has included courses in Accounting. 2. A valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record. 3. Willingness to work overtime as needed. 4. Physical ability to perform the critical and important duties of the position including strength sufficient to lift and carry over a short distance up to 30 pounds; stamina to sit for prolonged periods of time; dexterity to click a mouse; and hearing to communicate over the phone.
