The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for efficiently repairing, servicing, and maintaining diesel trucks, lifts, trailers, and small engines, both in the shop and in the field as required. This role ensures that all equipment remains in optimal working condition to support smooth operations. Essential Functions and Duties: Perform mechanical repairs, service, and preventive maintenance on diesel trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, and small engines as assigned by Branch Management. Conduct inspections to ensure equipment is repaired or serviced correctly on an ongoing basis, completing all necessary equipment check sheets. Accurately complete work orders, documenting all tasks performed and ensuring parts, labor, and miscellaneous costs are properly recorded. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all models of equipment used by RoadSafe. Keep the work area clean, organized, and in compliance with safety protocols. Monitor and maintain inventory levels of parts and shop supplies. Track tools and equipment, ensuring proper use and storage. Notify Branch Management of any equipment parts that are damaged, need replacement, or pose a safety risk. Assist in training and supervising mechanic helpers to ensure proper equipment handling. Follow all established safety policies and procedures while working with heavy machinery. Collaborate with vendors on cost-saving initiatives and improvements. Perform additional duties as assigned by Branch Management. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds multiple times per day without assistance. Capable of climbing into and over heavy equipment several times per day. Able to walk and stand on concrete or uneven surfaces for prolonged periods, and bend or kneel while working with arms lifted for extended durations. Welding and electronics experience is required. Ability to work around machines with moving parts and petroleum or chemical-based products in extreme temperatures. Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Basic knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements as they relate to fleet management. Flexibility to work extended hours, including standby or "on-call" shifts. Ability to travel and stay overnight as necessary, depending on project needs. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Strong understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems. Experience in welding and metal fabrication is essential. Valid driver's license with a good driving record required; CDL is a plus. Must provide your own basic hand tools. Experience operating construction equipment. Must pass a drug test and DOT physical. Basic computer skills required.
