The candidate will be providing automation/electrical design, standards development and design reviews for local and regional automation controls projects and customers. In addition to the normal project design and execution, the candidate will also be tasked with collaborating with our various internal engineering teams to support design work, reviews, standards development, etc. as needed. Additionally, the candidate will support our manufacturing and equipment build teams on the shop floor with power up, I/O checkout, commissioning, etc. The ideal candidate has a passion for Automation and Robotics. Reports to: Automation Engineering Manager Duties: • Provide automation and electrical designs for system integration including, but not limited to: panel layouts, industrial control networking architecture, schematic diagrams, single-line diagrams, elementary diagrams, loop sheets, power distribution, and more • Design hardware concepts for complex automation processes. • Collaborate with Mechanical and Controls teams to design mechatronics systems and stay on top of emerging technologies in automation. • Lead IO list development, specifying parts and researching solutions. • Lead creation of cable schedules and cable routes. • Determine and choose appropriate hardware and devices for automated systems. • Develop standard component libraries for the team to use on projects/machine builds. • Work with the team on maintaining and improving our CAD databases. Primary Responsibilities: • Lead QA of Industrial Control Panels, including analyzing our testing processes and generating reports to improve overall quality. • Lead major custom automation design projects from concept to completion. • Lead the design and innovation of advanced control panels and custom automation solutions. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the design team and project stakeholders. • Strategic planning for continuous improvement in design processes and project delivery. • Use AutoCAD / Solidworks Electrical to design electrical, automation and control systems. • Optimize designs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. • Collaborate with project managers to ensure designs align with client expectations. • Assist sales in the estimation of projects and electrical design work • Use experience and industry best practices to design systems in a lead role or as part of a larger team. Additional Responsibilities: • Lead detail drawing development for cable trays, cable breakouts, instrumentation, etc. • Automate functions to make CAD tasks quicker and more effective. • Lead development of our standard components library including incorporation of stock inventory. • Participation in safety risk assessments and assist in specifying robot cell safety components. • Help refine our UL / ISO processes. • Mentor and train other design engineers on best practices and industry standards for the design of safety controls systems Minimum Educational Qualifications: • 4-year engineering degree OR 2-year associates degree with 10+ years of experience in Electrical CAD design for industrial manufacturing related machines, equipment, robot cells, etc. • High-school diploma Minimum Previous Experience: • 8-10+ years of experience in machine building, system integration or industrial automation • UL508A knowledge • Experience designing systems to meet all applicable standards, including NFPA and NEC • AutoCAD or Solidworks Electrical experience • Understands discrete and analog circuits, and how to troubleshoot. • Understands hazardous area classification and how to apply to control systems and device selection • Industrial networking experience: Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, TCP/IP, Modbus, DH+, RIO, EtherCAT etc. • Expert level electrical and mechanical understanding • Expert level knowledge of how to read and interpret P&IDs and instruments spec sheets. • Hands on experience in automotive, food/beverage, chemical or consumer product manufacturing designing and integrating automated equipment. • Designing integration equipment including robot cells, OEM machines, process systems, etc. Minimum Additional Training: • AutoCAD Electrical • Solidworks Electrical (both 2D schematic and mechanical 3D) • RIA Robot / Machine Safety Risk Assessments • UL508A Training Potential Additional Training: • SEE electrical training which may be required for certain clients. • PLC/HMI/Robot setup and programming Other Skills: • Hands-on control, electrical or robotic experience highly desired • Very strong design and problem-solving skills • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to take initiative; highly selfmotivated. • Ability to follow structured processes for standard drawing development in a teambased project environment. • Electrical and mechanical aptitude to understand the automation processes being controlled. • The ability to work well in a team-based environment and independently. • Critical thinking skills • Working knowledge of MS Office 365 software • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing • A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Travel: • Up to 10% to customer sites or other CMA locations.
