Position: Director, Asset Management - Rolling Stock Job Description: The Forward Air team is looking for a talented Director, Asset Management for all rolling stock (Trailers, Tractors, Forklifts). This leadership role is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of rolling stock procurement, inventory management, equipment resale strategies, and systems development. This role requires extensive expertise in trucking/trailer maintenance and a strategic approach to budgeting, forecasting, and vendor relationships. The Director will liaise with various departments to ensure seamless operations and optimal asset utilization. Core Responsibilities & Duties: Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors to secure favorable terms and high-quality service Define specifications for the purchase of trailers and forklifts, ensuring they meet operational needs and exploring enhancement opportunities Develop and execute strategies for the resale or disposal of trailers and forklifts, maximizing returns Conduct market analysis to determine optimal timing and pricing for asset resale Establish partnerships to enhance resale opportunities and streamline the disposal process Innovate and improve equipment resale processes for better forecasting and budget accuracy Act as a partner to operations in determining the required tractor specifications for Linehaul and Local PU&D operations, ensuring that, in partnership with corporate procurement, that tractor leases are appropriately spec'd Arrange price negotiations in tandem with Corporate Procurement to achieve cost-effective procurement solutions Oversee the procurement process, ensuring timely and efficient acquisition of trailers and forklifts Develop a collaborative partnership with maintenance department to ensure the longevity and reliability of trailers and forklifts Establish Field operational standards and best practices for the use and maintenance of trailers and forklifts Develop and implement robust inventory control systems to track and manage trailer and forklift assets Monitor and analyze asset utilization to maximize efficiency and minimize idle time Ensure clear communication with field operations to address inventory needs and resolve any issues promptly Create and manage budgets for trailer and forklift procurement, maintenance, and operations Conduct financial forecasting to support strategic planning and decision-making Monitor and control costs associated with trailer and forklift management, ensuring alignment with budgetary Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors, ensuring the best possible terms and service quality Define and refine equipment specifications to meet operational needs and strategize on enhancements Oversee the ongoing reconciliation process of Enterprise inventory Engage with the enterprise to identify and leverage future synergies Provide attention and oversight to ensure consistent adjustments and improvements in FA Field Operations Develop strategies to influence repair and maintenance (R&M) and manage dwelled equipment Increase partnerships to optimize fleet costs and enhance resale opportunities Identify and develop additional TMT superusers to work with IT on future integrations Collaborate with IT to integrate TMT with ServiceNow and/or additional platforms post-OTM Endure the mindset of at some point beginning the design of future state systems, maintaining a vision for demands, desired technical functionality, and potential software providers Ensure the team has the bandwidth and structure to absorb and manage the additional workload Qualifications: Extensive experience in trucking/trailer maintenance Proven track record in asset management and procurement Strong negotiation and vendor management skills Excellent budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis capabilities Proficiency in TMT and other relevant systems Ability to liaise effectively with multiple departments and stakeholders Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement Extensive experience in trailer and forklift management Strong background in asset procurement and maintenance Proven ability to develop and maintain vendor relationships Excellent negotiation skills and financial acumen Proficiency in inventory management systems and tools Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities Skills and Attributes: Strong leadership and team management skills Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills Detail-oriented and highly organized Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Forward Air is an Equal Opportunity employer. #IND About Us Since 1990, Forward Air has been a leading provider of ground transportation and related logistics services to the North American air freight and expedited LTL market.
