Job Description Are you a motivated problem solver Do you have welding and/or metallurgy experience with low alloy steel, stainless or Ni-Cr-Fe alloys Want to work with state-of-the-art welding and materials processing equipment in a R&D Laboratory Want to support the world's best NAVY The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an experienced welding engineer to join our team. In this role you will: Provide direct welding engineering support of the active Naval Fleet. Support development and improvement of novel fabrication and joining methods. Develop welding process parameters/procedures and perform metallographic evaluations in a world class laboratory. Support welding laboratory functions like gas tungsten arc, shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, electron beam, laser processing, additive manufacturing and brazing. Lead development of manual, mechanized and automatic welding techniques/procedures. Plan and execute work programs, analyze experimental results and prepare technical reports. Occasional travel to vendors, shipyards, conferences to support testing and production use of equipment/procedures. Apply to this Welding Engineer opportunity today! Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE. Preferred Skills Experience as a welding engineer, preferably with Naval Nuclear Program applications. Experience with materials processing, welding equipment and materials characterization/weld testing techniques. Knowledge of welding codes and standards. Experience with, and/or a strong interest in, the fundamental metallurgy and /or materials science underlying welding related issues, the effect of welding process and parameters on materials properties and microstructure, and new fabrication technologies. Good engineering judgement and problem-solving skills; the ability to investigate a problem, identify the underlying causes and engineer potential solutions. Good communication skills, both written and oral, including technical presentations, writing reports and leading/facilitating group discussions. A proven ability to team well with others from widely diverse backgrounds, e.g., engineers, laboratory personnel, management and customers. The preferred candidate will have welding and metallurgy experience with low alloy steels, stainless steels and Ni-Cr-Fe alloys. Familiarity with additive manufacturing practices and arc, electron beam, and /or laser welding is beneficial.
