Principal Systems Engineer Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to our Mountain View Technical Center in Mountain View, CA or to the Milford Proving Ground in Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum. System Engineers are responsible for partitioning and allocating product, feature and system functionality to implementation teams. Safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance are factors considered in system design with the goal of optimizing performance, design, testability, and deployability. System engineers identify use cases, define functional technical requirements, enable robust implementation designs, and ensure built-in quality with test definition and traceability. Job Description Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our team. Your expertise will be pivotal in enhancing our systems engineering practices, bridging software and hardware integration, and driving efficiency improvements through advanced tools and methodologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing hardware and software requirements tracking, performing Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), leveraging data analysis techniques, and ensuring the successful implementation of systems across the V-model lifecycle. The Role: As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in the daily management and improvement of our systems engineering processes. Your responsibilities will include: What You'll Do: Manage and document hardware and software requirements throughout the development lifecycle. Perform Failure Modes and Effects Analysis to identify and mitigate potential risks in system designs. Apply data analysis techniques to extract actionable insights for system optimization and performance enhancement. Improve efficiency by implementing streamlined processes and tools, reducing development time and costs. Introduce innovative tools and technologies to enhance system development, testing, and deployment. Facilitate seamless integration between software and hardware components, ensuring compatibility and performance. Manage system development activities across the entire V-model lifecycle, from requirements analysis to testing and validation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products on schedule and within budget. Skills and Abilities: Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Minimum 15 years engineering experience. Proven expertise as a Systems Engineer with at least 8 years in systems engineering. Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and tools. Strong knowledge and expertise of functional safety systems and regulations. Proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) and FMEA techniques. Advanced knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Tableau). Experience with hardware and embedded software integration in complex systems. Ability to develop and utilize prototypes. Ability to define sensor and compute architecture definitions for future AD/ADAS systems. Define motion control requirements and interact with the calibration, validation, and verification teams towards implementation. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in Computer Science, controls or related engineering fields. Certification in Systems Engineering (e.g., INCOSE CSEP). Experience with Agile development methodologies. Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and practices. Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and driving system improvements to shape major organization-wide initiatives. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels championing large-scale change management creating impact beyond their own function. Experience in the automotive industry, particularly in ADAS development. Advanced knowledge of hardware and software integration techniques. Experience with various sensors including lidar, radar and cameras. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to lead remote teams across various time zones and serve as an indirect leader within their function. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement. Experience in leading cross-functional teams and projects. Proven experience in calibration, localization, mapping and prediction. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits. Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area. The salary range for this role is $225,000 to $344,800. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
