This inclusive employer is a member of myGwork - the largest global platform for the LGBTQ+ business community. Description Have you wondered how Amazon uses big data and science to inform big strategic decisions? Do you want to work in a multi-disciplinary group of product managers, ML scientists, economists, finance analysts, data engineers and software engineers to build tools to help Amazon make science-driven decisions on how to make the Amazon Prime membership better for our customers? If your answer is yes, come join us as we work on this unique intersection of science, engineering and business. As part of the engineering group of Prime economics, we are committed to building robust, scalable, maintainable and repeatable insights feeding key business decisions. In particular, we are responsible for creating counterfactual simulations that inform strategic investment decisions in Prime and its benefits, setting the right price of Prime and helping the business determine the value each Prime benefit brings to our customers. Our North Star involves creating a portfolio of tools that inform business leaders (through strategic simulation capabilities) as well as online systems as to which actions these actors can take to most delight our customers. One aspect of our team that is unique was recently characterized in a book by Turing award winner Judea Pearl (The Book of Why), who described the "Ladder of Causality" as comprising 1) Association (where most predictive ML tools live), 2) Intervention (e.g., reinforcement learning, reduced-form causal inference), 3) Imagining/Counterfactuals (e.g., structural econometrics, inverse reinforcement learning), with rungs 2 and 3 representing the future of artificial intelligence (AI) modeling. Our group is actively creating tools that span all three rungs of this ladder and anticipates being one of the company pioneers in the emerging field of creating massively-scalable causal inference and counterfactual simulation tools, an important new subfield of AI. We seek bold inventors to help us meet the challenges of this mandate.
