Summary This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, Position Description Number Dand is part of the NJ FMS 7, National Guard. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-10, you will: Troubleshoot, perform maintenance, and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment Troubleshoot equipment and diagnose the cause of mechanical failures Remove and disassemble engines Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations Conduct readiness and inspections on vehicles Assist in the maintenance of production reports and recommendations Requirements Conditions of Employment Additional Employment Requirements: -Participation in direct deposit is mandatory -May be required to successfully complete a probationary period -Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation -Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service Area of Consideration: Areas III: All current members of the New Jersey Army National Guard Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Military Grade: Min: SGT/E-5 and Max: MSG/E-8 Applicant(s) (Enlisted) who are over grade must clearly state, in their resumes, their intentions to willingly take a reduction in grade Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a military unit compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position. Military Unit -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1) Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, preventative maintenance, use of common tools, and equipment.
