What you'll do Viasat has an immediate opening for a Senior Communication Systems Engineer to join our team and help us continue to build on our successful 30-year legacy in end-to-end space, tactical, and enterprise network communications systems for our nation's space, air, and terrestrial platforms. This position provides a unique opportunity to develop ground breaking technologies and work closely with our customers to develop multi-function systems from concept to implementation that support our nation's most critical defense programs. This includes algorithm development, modem development, laser communications, firmware development, integration, and implementation on hardware. The day-to-day In this exciting and dynamic role, you will report into the Global Space Networks organization while working closely and collaboratively with other Viasat team members to identify, pursue, capture, and execute high priority opportunities in support of strategic growth goals. What you'll need 12+ years' experience in Lasercom space payload design with ability to communicate associations of the design trade 3+ years experience with space based laser comms to include design, development, manufacturing, opeations of lasercom payloads Advanced waveform/modem architecture development Proven experience working with interdisciplinary teams including Business Development, Systems, Software, RF circuits, FPGA design, and others Validated experience in the development of trade studies Proven customer engagement and subcontractor management experience Strong analytic/mathematics background with experience in system modeling, simulation, and analysis Proficiency using MATLAB Strong system, software, or test background including design and implementation Strong technical leadership Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline U.S. Government Position. U.S. Citizenship Required Active DoD Secret Clearance Ability to travel up to 10% domestic travel This role can be based in Carlsbad, CA, Tempe, AZ, Cleveland, OH or Marlborough, MA What will help you on the job Understanding of model-based system engineering techniques Proven ability to lead trade studies and architect innovative solutions to difficult technical problems Verified experience with Optical communication systems Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering Active DoD TS/SCI Clearance Salary range $176,200.00 - $306,200.00 / annually At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
